    About Redondo Beach

The ocean is still one of the world’s largest mysteries, with the vast majority of it remaining unexplored. Species that have never seen the light of day can be found in its depths, and we’ve yet to discover most of the marine life found in this vast environment. That is one of the reasons it is so important to conserve this place of discovery for generations to come, as well as to preserve the life that is found within it.

Redondo Beach California embraces this, and sets an example in SEA lab, a coastal science education center. Originally founded in 1974 by the Edison Marine Research Laboratory a fish protection system that could be used at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. This goal was achieved, and twenty years later the SEA lab was bought out by Southern California Edison in partner with Earth Island Institute, and they created it into the education facility it is today. LA Conservation Corps was selected to develop and run this program, as they seemed like the perfect organization to make this program successful.

LA Conservation Corp was founded in 1986 by a former U.S Secretary. They follow the model of the U.S. Civilian Corp that was created during the depression to help employ U.S citizens. Members of this organization work in the nursery, helping to grow and collect seed from native plants. These plants are often then made available for sale to the public.

SEA lab also performs in-center education programs, along with summer camp programs. You can often find them performing community service projects, and they even have a traveling tide pool. Everything is run by college students, who are more than happy to act as your Redondo Beach tutor and teach you about the aquatic beings and environment.

Programs like these help many citizens in need, and Redondo Beach is proud to have just such a program operating in its city. These programs provide work and education for people that need, and also receive the help of volunteers who want to be a part of it. Just like your Redondo Beach tutor, they want to help those around them succeed and better themselves. This program is a perfect example of how man can work in cohesion with each other as well as the environment, and make a change while doing so. One little step at a time does make a difference, and all it takes is the willpower to want to take that step forward.
