    About Hollywood Hills

Hollywood Hills, California has been home to many stars across the years, and in fact many homes that go up for sale boast the big names that once occupied the dwelling.

Among the stars that once called this place home is Bella Lugosi, the infamous original Dracula. Lugosi got his start as Dracula in 1927, being cast in the role for a theatrical play based on the novel by Brahm Stoker. Lugosi cast Dracula into a whole new light, giving him a new alluring handsome, and dangerously tantalizing edge, instead of just a monstrous vampire. The play ran on Broadway for six months, before going on tour across the United States from 1928-1929. Fans flocked to see the mysterious Dracula, and the man who played him so well. When Universal decided to make a movie based off Dracula, they could think of no better person then Bella Lugosi to play the role. The movie The Strangest Passion the World Has Ever Known was a hit, and forever solidified Lugosi as the quintessential image of Dracula for decades to come.

In the 1930’s Lugosi found himself cast as a many a different villain in various B type films, including Murders in the Rue Morgue, White Zombie, International House, The Raven, Dracula’s Daughter, and Son of Frankenstein. Lugosi was known as the one of the first well-known actors to make his career off of the horror genre, however Lugosi felt trapped in this character. He was quoted as saying "I am definitely typed, doomed to be an exponent of evil, but I want sympathetic roles. Then parents would tell their offspring, 'Eat your spinach and you'll grow up to be a nice man like Bela Lugosi.' As it is, they threaten their children with me instead of the bogey-man."

Lugosi continued on his portrayal of villains and evil-doers, but despite his success he lived much of his adult life in debt. Due to a combination of Universal’s often unfair system of compensation, and Lugosi’s own frivolous spending, he never was truly able to attain financial security. In the 1950’s he found his way back into the theatrical world, performing in renditions of the original Dracula play.

Lugosi is your original Hollywood Hills tutor for how to Dracula, however he could have used a Hollywood Hills financial tutor to help teach him how to capitalize on all of his success! It just goes to show that money only goes so far.
