    About Culver City

    Palm trees line many of the main streets of Culver City in Southern California, but that’s not the only reason that being here will make you feel like a movie star. With the nickname of “The Heart of Screenland”, Culver City is known for being where Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios is located (aka MGM Studios). Ever since the early 1900s, Culver City has been huge in the movie-making industry.

    Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios is not the only big name corporation that is located here in Culver City. Culver City is also home to the Hughes Aircraft Company (think Spruce Goose), along with NPR (National Public Radio) and more. Sony Pictures Entertainment also has their headquarters here in Culver City. If you’re a sports fan you might know the fact that Culver City is also home to the National Football League Network (NFL Network). Clearly, if show-business is your business, you probably know a thing or too about the historic community of Culver City.

    Long before Culver City was even established in Southern California, this region of the United States was inhabited by Native American Indians. The Tongva tribe lived here for thousands and thousands of years, and much of their culture is present in the area still today. Harkening back to the time when Spanish explorers and missionaries took over the area, the land around Culver City is still split into various rancheros.

    Because of its close proximity to the huge city and sprawling metropolitan area of Los Angeles, Culver City has always had access to many of L.A.’s rich amenities. In the late 1900s, there were several big restoration projects here in Culver City, restoring old buildings in historic downtown Culver City and harkening back to its movie-making heyday.
