    About Huntington Park

Huntington Park is one of several enclaves in Los Angeles County that caters to a diverse population—approximately 95% of its residents are of Mexican or Latin American descent, and have steadily made a home of Huntington Park since the 1980s. As a result, Mexican and Latin American cultural traditions are alive and well in the city. There is no greater evidence of this thriving culture than Pacific Boulevard, the principle thoroughfare of commerce and industry in the city.

Pacific Boulevard is an older road in Huntingon Park, but in recent decades, has experienced a boom of shoppers comparable to other shopping locales such as Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Art Deco architecture and hundreds of businesses line the street, so typical of Southern California culture and style. Pacific Boulevard is something of a Hispanic enclave for shopping, culture, and people watching. It offers a variety of shopping options and features several national and regional business outlets, such as Bank of America, Chase Bank, AT&T, T-Mobile, Daniel's Jewelers, JC Penny, Foot Locker, El Gallo Giro, Don Roberto Jewelers, 3 Hermanos and Tierra Mia Coffee. Pacific Boulevard also has numerous independent clothing and specialty stores that offer products for special occasions such as baptisms, first communions, quinceañeras, formal events and weddings. Several bars and restaurants feature live music and entertainment in the evenings. Following soccer games broadcasted in various restaurants and bars, streets will often fill with spectators and fans, celebrating the victories of their chosen teams.

Sadly, in recent years, Pacific Boulevard has seen something of a downturn in business. Diverse shopping options nearby, the advent of new media as a way to shop from home, and new generations of consumers have resisted the draw of the boulevard in favor of other locations and consumer practices. First-generation American children of immigrants desire new products, different commodities, and report that the boulevard doesn’t offer products that appeal to them—even if their parents still shop there on the weekends. In response to this, the mayor and city council have recently proposed to revamp and incorporate businesses that will draw in younger shoppers. Pacific Boulevard is a vital component to the economy and culture of Huntington Park.

Pacific Boulevard is an example of how setbacks occasionally occur, despite otherwise successful ventures. The need to have a series of goals and plans to continue perpetuating success is of the utmost importance for anyone—including students who are struggling with grades. Tutors in Huntington Park are there for moments like these, ready to help students with new goals, new plans, and ways to achieve academic success. The outlook is promising for Pacific Boulevard, with proper funding and community enthusiasm, and the outlook can be promising for the clients of tutors who work with them through their ups and downs.
