When you first think about Beverly Hills in Los Angeles County, California, you probably think of movie stars, sunsets, and huge, expensive mansions. Beverly Hills is much more than those stereotypical ideas of the city, however, and the people that live here will tell you how much they enjoy this unique community. Full of personality and excitement, Beverly Hills has a lot to offer both residents and tourists.
Before this town became a popular place to live for movie stars and the rich and famous, Beverley Hills was farmland, and one of the primary crops was lima beans. This ranch land was divided into smaller parcels and sold as rancheros to farmers and California land owners who wanted to invest in this region. At the turn of the twentieth century, oil companies purchased parcels of this land to see if it would be profitable in the oil industry. When it turned out to not be so oil rich, the land was then sold to developers who planned out neighborhoods, and families began to move here, though slowly. This is when Beverly Hills got its name.
How did Beverly Hills get its reputation for being home to the rich and famous? It wasn’t until the 1950s when big movie stars and Hollywood actors began to buy estates here. Several of the big names that lived here in Beverly Hills included Elvis Presley, Lucille Ball, Jack Benny, Ray Charles, President Nixon, and more. Today, Beverly Hills is still known for being home to many movie stars, singers, and reality TV stars, including Jennifer Anniston (from the hit TV series, Friends), Lionel Richie (famous singer), and Harry Styles (from the group One Direction). Many tourists from around the United States and from around the world take bus tours through Beverly Hills, and tour guides point out these famous mansions.
There are several beautiful parks in Beverly Hills, and families love being able to go to these well-maintained playgrounds, athletic fields, and outdoor areas. Everything is clean and well-maintained here in Beverly Hills, and residents enjoy a very high quality of life. The crime rate is low, and Beverly Hills is known for being one of the nicer places to live in Los Angeles County.
When it comes to local schools, Beverly Hills has four public elementary through middle school campuses, and two public high schools. A number of private schools and charter schools are available for local Beverly Hills students, as well. For students of any age or grade level, local Beverly Hill tutors are available to help after school. These local tutors can meet with each student one-on-one and help them develop better study skills and work towards reaching their personal educational goals.
