About Rosedale
Baltimore County, Maryland, is full of cute, small cities, that aren’t small on personality. One such city is Rosedale, a community located in the northeastern part of the state of Maryland.
It’s always interesting to look into how a city got its name, and sometimes there are multiple explanations. In the middle of the 1900s, a local elementary school class was assigned with the task of learning about the history of their city here in Baltimore County. During this fun class project, one student found out that there was a large parcel of land in the area around the time that Rosedale was first founded. This piece of land was full of rose bushes, and this land belonged to a man by the name of “Dale”. And so, because of these famous roses and the man that owned the farm, the city was named “Rosedale”. Though this story is unconfirmed, it sure is a nice local tale, and is repeated by many local Rosedale residents to this day.
The history of Rosedale revolves around agriculture. This farming community stayed primarily based on agriculture until after the second World War, when more homes and neighborhoods were developed where farmland used to be. This urbanization brought plenty of progress and change to Rosedale, including better transportation and an improved infrastructure of roads and highways.
It wasn’t until the middle of the 20th century that Rosedale became a more popular suburb of the bigger, more quickly growing city of Baltimore. Because of Rosedale’s close proximity to the big city, it soon began to grow as a suburb in which people could live in and commute to Baltimore each day for work. This increased the popularity of Rosedale as a commuter town. Many more housing developments appeared, and Rosedale grew in population. Rosedale residents enjoy living so close to Baltimore because it affords them access to many big city amenities, as well as access to art and culture.
When it comes to education, Rosedale is served by the Baltimore County Public School system. This includes a number of public elementary schools, public middle schools, public high schools, and a few combination schools. In Rosedale, there are also a number of private schools and charter schools for parents to choose from when picking out the right educational option for their child. Students of any age can get individualized help from local Rosedale tutors. These local tutors can meet with each student one-on-one to help them reach their educational goals.
