    About St. Albans

The vibrant and unique community of St. Albans is located within the borough of Queens in the great city of New York. Considered to be a primarily middle class neighborhood, St. Albans has a rich history in the African American community, especially, with famous residents including Count Basie, Jackie Robinson, and Ella Fitzgerald. The demographic today is primarily African American middle class families, and those that live here love their life in St. Albans.

One of the iconic, historic neighborhoods in St. Albans is known as Adisleigh Park. The distinct homes here are built in several different unique styles, and for a long time was known as a neighborhood for Caucasian families only. It was intended to segregate this community in Queens, and remained as such until the 1930s, sadly. At that point in time, this segregation was ended here in Adisleigh Park, and many famous African American individuals and families purchased homes here. Now it is a primarily African American neighborhood, and it is considered to be a more affluent community within St. Albans, with most of its residents considered to be in the upper class demographic. Adisleigh Park is on the list of national historic places in the United States.

With access to several great means of public transportation, St. Albans is very connected to the surrounding communities, the borough of Queens as a whole, and New York City as well. This is great for locals who live in St. Albans but need to commute elsewhere for work, as public transportation is cheap and very convenient. Many families that live here in St. Albans rely on public transportation, as owning a car in New York is just not very practical.

Another local historic site that is worth visiting while you are here in St. Albans is the St. Albans Golf Course. Even if you aren’t an avid golfer, the St. Albans golf course has brought in rich and famous characters from around the world. Babe Ruth was known for having played golf here at the St. Albans Golf Course. The golf course itself is not around today, as this land was sold to the government during the era of the Great Depression. As a result, you can still visit the site, but it is now home to the local hospital and care facility for United States veterans.

Served by the New York City Department of Education, local St. Albans students have access to many high quality educational resources. Students can also contact local St. Albans tutors for any extra after school help. These local tutors are available to meet one-on-one with each student, helping each student reach their educational goals.
