About Woodhaven

The communities of Woodhaven and Richmond Hill are located within the borough of Queens in New York City, and are fairly centrally located within the borough. With a population that is primarily considered to be middle class, both Woodhaven and Richmond Hill have a lot of great amenities and benefits to offer their residents, and the high quality of life is high here. Both communities give off a small-town vibe, which is very attractive to long-time city dwellers, who want to live close to the big city of Manhattan, but not amongst the hustle and bustle. With a relatively low crime rate, both Woodhaven and Richmond Hill are considered to be great places to raise a family.

There are several points of historical importance and interest here in the Woodhaven and Richmond Hill areas. Because New York City has such a long, rich history in the United States, the many boroughs that make it up have their own, unique cultural landmarks. One of the most beautiful buildings in this region of Queens is the gorgeous St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. This building was erected in the early 1900s in a style known as Late Gothic Revival, and many architecture buffs come to see this work of art in person. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is protected for future generations to view and enjoy. Several other buildings in both Woodhaven and Richmond Hill are located on the National Register of Historic Places as well, and are all worth touring if you are ever in the area.

Forest Park is a popular park that many Woodhaven and Richmond Hill residents enjoy on a daily basis. Always busy with families and residents of all ages, Forest Park is home to many fun recreational activities, and has its own golf course, several playgrounds and athletic fields, and many tennis courts. Tennis is one of the most popular sports in the area, and is evidenced by how busy these tennis courts are every day. Make sure you call ahead and make a reservation, or all of the courts might be taken!

The New York Department of Education provides service to all of the public schools located in the area, including schools in Woodhaven and Richmond Hill. The New York City Academy for Discovery is also located in this area, as well as several other private schools and charter school.
