"We had a great experience working with our tutor, Danielle. She was wonderful, patient, kind, and always prepared. She even tailored lessons to Sofia's needs (and moods)."

Sunnyside is a residential community in the western region of the borough of Queens, in New York City, New York. With a cheerful name like “Sunnyside”, one can expect happy residents, thriving families, and a community with a lot to offer. Like its name, Sunnyside is a great place to live, and offers residents nice neighborhoods, quality neighborhood parks, and access to many great local amenities.
Before Sunnyside was the urbanized community that it is today, it was farmland. This land was purchased and turned into a large estate by a French immigrant family in the 1700s. It wasn’t until much later, in the 1800s, that pieces of the land were sold and gradually it was planned out and turned into a rural community. Small farm owners thrived here in this part of New York, as the land was fertile and the irrigation was perfect. Later, in the late 1800s, local development propelled Sunnyside into a new era, and urbanization was eminent. Large apartment complexes and sky scrapers were developed and pretty soon Sunnyside was a bustling community in Queens, holding its own among the local competition.
Sunnyside is known for being the location of one of the very first master-planned communities in the entire United States. This planned community for which it is famous is called “Sunnyside Gardens” and has been protected and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Local architects and city planners made sure to plan for plenty of parks and open green spaces among all of the new high rises and buildings, and this helped to set Sunnyside apart as a very family-friendly, nature-loving community. Sunnyside joined the “garden” movement, in which city planners of this time were recognizing the benefits of planned green spaces within planned communities. Green spaces are not only healthy in that they provide space for physical activity, they are also refreshing and relaxing mentally. Sunnyside residents still benefit from these open, green spaces to this day.
In popular culture, Sunnyside is famous for a number of celebrities that have called Sunnyside home. Perry Como (singer), Bix Beiderbecke (jazz musician), and even punk band The Ramones have called Sunnyside home at one time or another. Local Sunnyside residents take great pride in these famous people that came from the same place as them.
Served by the public schools governed by the New York City Department of Education, Sunnyside students have access to many of New York City’s great educational resources. Local Sunnyside tutors are also available for students that need an extra helping hand. These local tutors work one-on-one with each student to help them reach their goals and dreams.

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
Typically within 2-3 business days, depending on subject, location, and schedule availability. Urgent timelines are noted in your profile so introductions prioritize your timing.
