Named after St. Ferdinand, as well as the Mission San Fernando Rey de Espana, San Fernando, California, is a city of juxtapositions. San Fernando is the center of manufacturing and commerce, but it was once rural landscape, home to farms and ranches. Though it is surrounded by the bustling vibrancy and conveniences of Los Angeles, citizens of San Fernando can also enjoy sweeping views of the San Gabriel foothills, which offers a sense of seclusion from big city life. It’s both metropolitan and close-knit, a perfect contradiction.
San Fernando, as mentioned, is surrounded by the City of Los Angeles, but San Fernando is its own separate city. In fact, its founding predates Los Angeles, a point of great pride for the City of San Fernando. Citizens and leaders of the city have more than just that to be proud of, however. For example, the warm, Mediterranean climate makes San Fernando a great place to work, live, and learn. San Fernando tutoring is the perfect option for students who require more education opportunities, whether for extra assistance or as a supplementary option.
The weather, history, and culture make San Fernando an amazing place to live and has several sources of great pride, but there is another reason San Fernando has some cool bragging rights. It is the hometown of multi-talented choreographer, singer-songwriter, actress, and former American Idol judge, Paula Abdul.
Born in 1962, Paula Abdul had rhythm in her genes. Her mother was a concert pianist, so it stands to reason Paula would find so much inspiration from music. She took dance lessons at an early age and would become a cheerleader in high school. This dedication and passion for dancing would pay off. During her freshman year of college, Abdul was selected to be a member of the Los Angeles Lakers cheerleading squad—the infamous Laker Girls. Within a year, she was head choreographer.
Paula Abdul’s meteoric rise to success continued when she was discovered at a Lakers game by The Jacksons. She would choreograph a video for their single “Torture,” which would go on to fuel her fame and make her one of the most sought after choreographers in the industry. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Abdul would choreograph concerts, tours, and videos for several singers, release workout videos featuring her vibrant dance choreography, and launch her own singing career.
Though Paula Abdul found fame and success in her career, it was because she was passionate and dedicated to pursuing her dreams. San Fernando tutors want to help students be successful in their scholastic pursuits, so they, too, can have the opportunity to pursue that which makes them passionate.
