    About Arleta

Arleta is a small neighborhood located in the city of Los Angeles. A quiet place to live, it is located near several major tourist attractions, a mere 20 minutes from Hollywood and the Los Angeles Zoo, not to mention the quaint Japanese Gardens in nearby Van Nuys. This community doesn’t feel like it’s located within the second largest city in the United States, however, and Arleta High School is an excellent example of small-town values existing within a sprawling urban environment.

Arleta High School, founded less than a decade ago, asks students to rise to the utmost of mature behaviors. Tuesdays are business casual dress days—students are invited to take the extra time in the morning to look and dress their best for school. In addition, Arleta students have Spirit Fridays, which is when everyone is invited to wear red, black, and white—the school’s colors. Arleta High School has a strict no cell phones policy, so students are not hindered by distraction and interruption throughout the day. The campus is clean and well-kept, and its academics are in keeping with its image in the community.

The school has a 96% graduation rate, boasts championship winners in its athletics department, and has received the California Gold Ribbon Award by the state. Arleta High School ranks in the top 10% of all senior high schools, and with how population dense the state of California is, this is quite a feat! Thousands of schools compete for these admirable stats, but Arleta consistently comes out on top.

College Summit, a club at Arleta High School, is one of the key players in the school’s success. College Summit is a national nonprofit organization that partners with high schools to send more students to college and foster college-going cultures on high school campuses. Arleta has opened up a chapter of College Summit, and as a result, has a robust counseling program designed to assist students in the college application process, funding help, and career options following graduation. Thousands of students, not just at Arleta, but throughout southern California, have benefitted from College Summit programs opening up at their schools. When a culture of success is promoted at the local level, students are able to rise above the challenges they face with the tools necessary to continue their academic careers without fear of failure or affordability.

Grade Potential tutors who work with the community of Arleta are as dedicated to student success as College Summit, regardless of where their clients are at academically. Perhaps some students who are part of College Summit seek tutoring help—this is a boon not only to Grade Potential’s partnership with this organization, but to the student individually. When help is offered, in variety of forms, students can be rest assured they can turn failing grades around and look forward to bright academic future.
