    About Temple Terrace

Temple Terrace Florida is the oldest golf community in the United States. Originally, the idea of designing a beautiful golf course and surrounding neighborhood came from Bertha Palmer. Palmer owned a large game reserve and wanted to convert the property into a thriving residential area. Unfortunately, Palmer passed before she could realize her dream, but a couple of local companies caught her idea. Temple Terrace Estates Inc. bought Palmers estate and used the property to developed the Temple Terrace Golf Course and Country Club. They then constructed a housing development around the golf course; creating the first golf course community in the U.S. These same men also created Temple Terrace Inc. and planted thousands of temple orange trees across the remaining 5,000 acres of Palmer’s estate. At the time, this was the largest temple orange grove in the world. Their marketing strategy was to sell off portions of the giant orange grove with each residential property.

The golf course community became a vacationers dream. New owners maintained their groves as a hobby or sold their oranges for a little extra income. Most of these homeowners would only live in Temple Terrace during, “the season,” which ran from December to the annual Washington ball at the end of February. The rest of the year, caretakers would occupy the homes. The community was a success and so was the golf course. In fact, the golf course was even the host of the 1925 and 1926 Florida Open. Bertha Palmer had an excellent idea, and now there are over 3,200 golf course communities in the U.S.

Today, many people still enjoy the Temple Terrace Golf Course and Country Club; but now instead of being known for temple orange trees, the city is known for their grand sand live oak trees. Temple Terrace has the most grand live oak trees in central Florida and works hard to protect and care for them; because of this, Temple Terrace has become a Tree City USA community. Being a Tree City USA community means that the city has met a certain amount of requirements by the Arbor Day Foundation, and has been recognized for urban and community forestry. Urban and community forestry refers to the care and maintenance of trees within cities and developed areas. Once a city is recognized, the program provides assistance in maintaining and developing urban forestry, and also helps gain public attention about its importance. Temple Terrace understands the importance of tree cultivation and can tutor other cities about urban forestry. Whether you come for a round of golf or to admire the beautiful tree groves, Temple Terrace has long been a place for fun, relaxation, and a pretty view.

Temple Terrace tutors want to help every student realize their dreams. They understand that an education must be properly cultivated in order to thrive and grow. Temple Terrace tutors are ready and available to help.
