Originally, Linda Vista was a sparsely populated rural area, owned mostly by ranchers who moved to the area to enjoy beautiful views of the ocean, mountains, and valleys. The area would experience dramatic change however, when it became the largest defense housing project of World War II: and at the time, the largest in the world. San Diego has a long history of military involvement. It’s great climate and clear skies make it the ideal place for aircrafts to land and fly out of, and the San Diego Bay is an ideal port for a naval base. Leading into WWII, there were many military based operations happening in San Diego, but the community was in no way prepared for how much the level of involvement would affect them. When the war hit, there was a sudden increase in the amount of workers that would come to the area and this would change the makeup of the community forever.
Originally, workers were housed in trailers, but quickly there was a housing crisis as too many people were trying to squeeze into an area that simple could not house them. Eventually, the government decided to step in and picked Linda Vista as the spot to build their housing community. In less than one year, three thousand houses were built. These builders could tutor other housing companies in how to efficiently produce houses in a short amount of time. Once the people had a place to live, the local government had a new problem. As San Diego practically exploded overnight, the city needed a local economy and infrastructure that could support a much bigger population. This meant that the amount of people called for more, stores, schools, parks, etc. One of the biggest issues was local transportation. Because of the war, tires and fuel were being rationed and the government asked everyone to cut down. But if people couldn’t fuel and maintain their own vehicles, then they needed public transportation to get them where they needed to go. Another big problem was that the housing district was not built in walking distance of where people worked. So, the San Diego Trolley system had to step up to meet the growing needs. This lead to a huge expansion in Trolley lines, and in some cases even reconstruction. Eventually, the community grew enough to match its population, and military involvement is a large part of why San Diego has become the booming capital of the west. As time has gone on things have quieted down, but Linda Vista will always be a hard working community that is united by a proud history and beautiful views of San Diego.

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
Typically within 2-3 business days, depending on subject, location, and schedule availability. Urgent timelines are noted in your profile so introductions prioritize your timing.
