About Carmel Valley

Carmel Valley, an affluent suburb north of the city of San Diego, is a recent player in the city’s local economy. With subdivisions, close coastal access, retailers, restaurants, good schools, and pleasant weather year-round, Carmel Valley is an inviting region of the county. It’s so inviting, in fact, that Neurocrine Biosciences is able to operate their headquarters out of this community.

Neurocrine Biosciences was founded in 1992 as a biopharmaceutical company, with research focused on neurological problems and endocrine disorders. Since then, Neurocrine Biosciences has expanded and encountered high levels of success. Despite the recession that hit the company from 2006-2009, researchers pushed onward, and in 2010, the company announced that a drug to treat endometriosis had fulfilled two important goals in its clinical study and trial. The drug, called elagolix, showed significant reductions in dysmenorrhea and pelvic pain during menstruation as well as painful intercourse for women who suffer from reproductive ailments. Currently, the drug is in development and further clinical trials with AbbVie in partnership. Moreover, in April 2017 the United States Food and Drug Administration approved Neurocrine Biosciences drug, Ingrezza, for the treatment of tardive dyskinesia. Currently, this is the only drug capable of treating tardive dyskinesia on the market, and those who suffer from this disorder have much to hope for treatment and recovery.

Part of what has made Neurocrine Biosciences so successful is not only the hard work of their employees, but also the purpose and values expressed first-hand by those at the company. Relieving patient suffering and enhancing lives is of the utmost importance to leaders at Neurocrine Biosciences, whose creed includes the following characteristics, as stated on the company’s website: “PASSION: We are driven and love what we do. We are committed to our goals and to making a difference. INTEGRITY: We do the right thing for patients and our community. We take accountability. We speak up. COLLABORATION: We are inclusive. We are respectful. We are transparent. Together we succeed. INNOVATION: We seek and create optimal solutions. TENACITY: We do not quit. We adapt. We accomplish what others cannot.”

Employees at Neurocrine Biosciences aren’t the only ones who live up to these sorts of standards to see success. Students in Carmel Valley should also have passion and integrity, collaborate with their peers, innovate, and be tenacious. In fact, these attributes are just as crucial to turning bad grades around as they are to success in the field of biochemistry. Tutors who work with students in Carmel Valley recognize the importance of these characteristics and employ them in their own sessions. Even better, they demonstrate to their clients how to develop them, so that once tutoring is over and we are on our way to success, the tools to pursue it are still intact.
