Each year in October Haverford Township hosts it’s very own “Haverford Township Day.” According to Haverford tutors, it is the highlight of the Haverford social calendar, and much of the communities’ attention is focused on this in the months that approach the event, with regular planning meetings held to discuss how to maintain its success and how to best continue to encourage involvement from Haverford community members of all ages.
Thousands attend the event annually making it a regular mainstay or even a tradition for some families; it has been running for twenty-three years. Entrance to the event is free, and stores within the city have special deals and pricing set up for the day. There is also live music played outdoors on the streets, stalls with vendors, and interactive street performers to engage with. The organizers also set up a parade through the city streets and there are prizes to be won for those who put together the best costumes. The event draws to a close in the early evening before attendees pack up and head back home. According to Haverford tutors the community really does make a concerted effort to make it’s residents welcome and included and they organize numerable events weekly and annually to encourage residents to come out and meet and get to know each other, and this is just one of them.

Businesses within this prime zone offer environmentally friendly services and or products. The Green Zone area along Darby Road normally has vendors selling electric or alternative fuel Cars, bikes and motorcycles, information about alternative energy sources like solar panels, goods that have been crafted out of recycled materials, and environmentally friendly services like green car-washes and rain gardens. The non-profit area is designed to create awareness for charities who work directly to support the residents of Haverford Township.
