Bensalem, Pennsylvania is an idyllic township just outside the bustling city of Philadelphia. Bensalem has been a dot on the map since before the founding of the United States, and was one of the first townships established in Pennsylvania by William Penn in the late seventeenth century. Tradition runs deep in Bensalem, and in many ways, it is representative of the typical New England town: austere, yet beautiful, enduring with charm and close community. There is no better evidence for this than the Bensalem Fall Festival, held annually in October in the township’s center.
The beauty of Autumn on the East Coast is of national renown—people travel from miles away when the weather cools and the days turn short to get a glimpse of the leaves turning. For miles, in states such as Pennsylvania, the leaves on the trees turn hues of orange, red, yellow, pink, and purple. The image of the cheerful fall season, cinnamon and apple in the air, originates from this region of the United States. At the heart of it is the yearly fall festival.
Bensalemn’s fall festival occurs over the course of a fun-filled Saturday in early October. Residents gather to celebrate local pride in their community, with a classic car show and musical acts performing throughout the day. Vendors, crafts, and food are available throughout the day as well, making the festival ideal for family togetherness. The festival ends with a stunning fireworks display in the cool night air, no doubt spiced with the scent of apple cider and gunpowder.
The fall festival is billed as a distinctive activity of Bensalem that promotes friendship, goodwill, and community. Just like the early Quakers who founded the Pennsylvania colony, the residents of Bensalem come together to celebrate their values and work together to strengthen the local bonds of community and economy.
Bensalem tutors take this value of community to their appointments with clients, working together with individual students to ensure their success. It may be difficult to picture a tutoring session like a fall festival, but it can be a satisfying experience for tutors and students alike. By coming together and working to build mutual appreciation and support, tutors instill confidence in their clients, better for having worked together. Even better, if students work hard throughout the week leading up to fall festival, they can attend it with clear conscience and take a day off from school work, knowing they are caught up and deserving of a fun time.
