Tredyffrin, township is located in Chester County, Pennsylvania; and is home to many historical sites. One site in particular, has become a famous landmark of the American Revolutionary War. The Valley Forge National Historical Park protects and preserves the history that helped create the United States of America.

The Valley Forge National Historical Park is 3,500 acres and includes historical buildings, recreated encampment structures, memorials, museums, and recreation facilities. Every year over 1.2 million people come to visit the park, and get tutored in early American history. Valley Forge was established as in 1893, and was the first state park in Pennsylvania. According to the Valley Forge Park Commission, it was designed to “preserve, improve, and maintain as a public park the site on which General George Washington's army encamped at Valley Forge." In 1923, the Valley Forge Park Commision became part of the Department of Forests and Waters; and in 1971, it became the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. In 1961, the park became a National Historic landmark, and in 1966, it was listed in the National Register of HIstoric places. For America’s Bicentennial, July 4, 1976, Pennsylvania gifted Valley Forge to the nation, and it became the 283rd Unit of the National Park System.

Valley Forge is a famous historical site, because it was the location of a critical encampment of the Continental Army. The army stayed at Valley Forge from December 19, 1777 to June 19, 1778. This was right in the middle of the American Revolution, and right after a disheartening defeat from the British Army. The Continental Army chose Valley Forge for their encampment, because it was located right between the seat of the Second Continental Congress in York, supply depots in Reading, and British forces in Philadelphia. At that point in the war, the troops were discouraged, run down, and pessimistic. The stay in Valley Forge was a much needed repreeve and was actually credited with the eventual success of the Continental Army, and the turning point of the Revolutionary War. While the troops stayed at Valley Forge, Baron Friedrich von Steuben, used his expertise and a professional military training program to re-educate the soldiers and equip them with the tools for success. This training brought much needed rejuvenation and confidence for the men, and spurred them on to victory. Today, Valley Forge is preserved because we recognize its importance in helping to make our Nation a reality.
