Upper Dublin, Pennsylvania is a large township in Montgomery County. Upper Dublin is a community that works together to make their home a great place to live. The township values people, creativity, quality, integrity, openness, and respect; and this is seen throughout the community. One organization that works especially hard to support the community, is the Upper Dublin Township Police Department. Established in 1928, the department has a proud history of protecting and serving the township. But, the Upper Dublin Township Police Department doesn’t just protect Upper Dublin; it also engages the community in fun and inclusive opportunities to learn about safety and crime prevention.
The community has several programs including career fairs, Coffee With a Cop, a college internship program, the Junior Police Academy and Field Day, the Family Picnic and Softball Game, tours of the police department and vehicles, and more. The department has worked hard to find ways to connect with everyone in the community from kids to adults. Officers know that a positive relationship with the community, leads to a safer township.
For kids, the department hosts the Junior Police Academy and Field Day. This annual event helps educate youth on crime prevention and personal safety. The event lasts two days and includes SWAT team, bomb squad, investigation, and K-9 unit demonstrations, a helicopter landing, fire and EMS trucks, a tour of the station, and more. The Field Day is for children between 8 and 12, and includes a relay race, kickball game, frisbee toss, sponge relay, water balloon race, tug of war, face painting, music, water ice truck and barbeque. The goal of field day is to help build relationships between law enforcement and local youth.
For College students interested in Criminal Justice, the department offers a College Internship Program. The internship helps students fulfill academic requirements while giving them the opportunity to see law enforcement up close. The internship not only helps college students advance in their education; it also demonstrates to the community that the department is in full support of students striving to get a college degree.
For adults, the Department is available through Coffee With a Cop. This is a chance for the adult members of the community to get together with police officers for coffee and conversation. Those who attend are allowed to ask whatever questions they may have and voice their concerns for the neighborhood. This meeting is a great way for residents to feel heard and for the department to know what areas they can improve in. The Upper Dublin Township Police Department could tutor other police departments in how to engage in their community and show support. They work hard everyday to make Upper Dublin a safer place.
