Discovery Bay is a small, unincorporated area whose motto is “Live Where You Play!” Originally conceived as a home away from home for people living in Northern California, it has since evolved into a place where thousands of residents make permanent homes, complete with several public schools, shopping centers, and other features of a promising city to-be. What was the draw to make Discovery Bay a permanent home for so many? The promise of waterfront living, thanks to ingenious community planning on the river delta.
The Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta is comprised of over 1,200 miles of waterways, located between Sacramento and Stockton. It is the largest estuary on the US Pacific Coast, and the larger rivers feeding the Delta are the Sacramento and the San Joaquin River. Other rivers include the American River, Mokelumne River, Cosumnes River and the Calaveras River. The tributary rivers have made the Delta what it is, and have allowed Discovery Bay to build up around it. Wildlife, plant life, and other features of the Delta have made this an attractive place to experience for several decades.
Environmentally precious and culturally important, the Delta is home to the so-called “bread basket” of America. Delta water is the lifeblood for hundreds of thousands of acres of farmlands that feed not only California, but the nation. The Delta is made up of numerous channels, or sloughs, that have resulted in a system of “islands” and wetlands protected by a complex levee system. Human-made dikes have been constructed in Discovery Bay to not only build up a community, but also tend to these farmlands that produce so much for the United States.
The Delta is a popular destination for boating, fishing and other water sports for visitors and local residents alike. For most people in Discovery Bay, the town’s placement on the Delta and all that it offers is an integral to the way of life in the community. Aerial views of the city show how the region has established a small footprint on the Delta, with beautiful homes on dikes and inlets on the water.
While you may think tutors discourage the notion of too much play, tutors in Discovery Bay recognize the importance of balancing work and fun. In fact, they strive to make their sessions an enjoyable experience, since students meeting with them likely feel insecure with faltering grades. Taking a cue from the community in which they reside, Grade Potential tutors appreciate what their clients offer as far as work ethic and potential, and are willing to build up the individual the more they work together.
