    About Danville

Danville, California was once an important stop along the Southern Pacific Railroad shortly after its founding. Today, that same route and stop is used for a different purpose. It has become the Iron Horse Regional Trail, and reflects how Danville adapts and changes to the different needs of the time.

The Iron Horse Regional Trail is a rail trail for pedestrians, horse riders and bicycles that was once a route for the train that ran through the region. This trail mostly follows a Southern Pacific Railroad right of way established in 1891 and abandoned in 1977. Rather than see the route fall into disrepair, the two counties of Alameda and Contra Costa purchased the right of way, intending to use it as an updated transportation route; eventually, the Iron Horse Trail was established in 1986.

The trail passes through Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon, Danville, Alamo, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill and Concord. When completed, the trail will span from Livermore in central Alameda County to Suisun Bay at the northern edge of Contra Costa County, which is a distance of over 40 miles. This connects two counties and nine communities.

The Iron Horse Regional Trail also has several bridges over busy roads and routes to help improve traffic flow; two notable bridges cross over Ygnacio Valley Road and Treat Boulevard in Walnut Creek. Additional bridges will be implemented in the future, ensuring more pedestrian access on this long trail. These bridges hearken back to the trussed structures of the railroad, though they have been paved over and made user-friendly with years of work and maintenance work after the trail was converted from the rail line.

Notwithstanding initial skepticism, and even some local opposition, the trail is now a major transportation and recreation thoroughfare. One million trips are made each year on the path, whether by residents and commuters, or visitors who want to traverse the long corridor. The planners and purchasers of this land demonstrated vision and ingenuity to convert existing paths to other purposes, with minimal environmental impacts and a relatively small budget needed to cover costs.

Tutors in Danville may not be asked to plan a major travel route that spans miles and cities, but they are asked to think creatively about old problems that plague struggling students. How do I best study? What material is going to best benefit my situation? How long do I need to study? How do I efficiently get my grades up? These are all questions clients may ask Grade Potential tutors, and like the city planners of Danville, they will not only think critically, but creatively, to help students turn grades around and achieve the academic success they so desire
