Maryland Heights, by all accounts, is a young town compared to so many others in the St. Louis region. Founded and incorporated in 1985, Maryland Heights is a charming suburb outside of the city. Long before Maryland Heights came to fruition, however, Creve Coeur Lake was a getaway for St. Louis residents needing a break from urban life.
Creve Coeur is an oxbow lake, with a wide loop that creates a body of freestanding water cut off from the supply of a river water. Marshlands and wetlands are natural habitats for oxbow lakes, and Creve Coeur is no exception. Numerous varieties of animals make their home at the lake, from fish to birds to small woodland creatures.
Creve Coeur Lake was originally a resort, popular for boating and family excursions. Sailing regattas were popular in the lake in the late nineteenth century, with competitors traveling for miles to boat on Creve Coeur. In 1945, it was incorporated into the Parks System and dedicated as a public park for everyone to enjoy. Creve Coeur Lake now features athletic fields, tennis courts, picnicking facilities, as well as golf courses and a bridge that joins the city of St. Louis to the park. The lake itself is one of the largest in the state of Missouri, naturally formed, and has been the target of conservation efforts, particularly the study of different waterfowl roost and nest along its shores.
Concerted efforts to preserve the lake and its surrounding acreage have led to the creation of a peaceful getaway for local nature enthusiasts, with something for everyone to be found at Creve Coeur. Without the dedicated attention and resources, Maryland Heights would likely have missed out on an opportunity to have this gem within city limits.
Like the individuals who look after and preserve the charm of Creve Coeur Lake, tutors in Maryland Heights take the time necessary to work with their clients. When the lake was first set aside for the Parks System, some renovating work needed to be done: paths needed to be put in, undergrowth needed to be cut back, and different areas needed to be delineated to serve different purposes. Similarly, tutors have to perform some renovation work when they first meet with struggling students. Bad habits need to be changed, new habits need to be formed, and greater attention needs to be paid to a given subject in order for clients to see their academic performance increase. The end result of working with a Grade Potential tutor, however, is ultimately success, just as Creve Coeur Lake has become a successful point of interest for Maryland Heights.

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
Typically within 2-3 business days, depending on subject, location, and schedule availability. Urgent timelines are noted in your profile so introductions prioritize your timing.
In-person at home or another convenient, quiet, safe location (like the local library). When families need flexibility, online sessions are also available.
Experienced, professional independent tutors with strong subject knowledge and a track record of working one-on-one with students. Many hold degrees in their fields; some are certified teachers or graduate students with specialized expertise.

Support spans elementary through college across all core subjects (math, reading, writing, science, languages) plus test prep (e.g., SAT/ACT, AP, GRE) and many electives.
