Affton Missouri is home to Grant’s Farm, a historical vacation destination for many. The farm was actually partially owned and worked by Ulysses S. Grant, a general in the civil war and 18th president of the United States. The farm owes its name to him. The farm is now owned by the Busch family, you might know them as the creators of a popular beer Budweiser, but that’s not at all what this farm is about. The Busch family have turned it into a family friendly farm, combining history with farm life in a unique and one of a kind experience in the small town.
Grant’s cabin still stands on the property, a four-room two-story cabin that he fondly dubbed “Hardscrabble” In the late 1800’s the property passed out of the hands of the Grant family, and in the early 1900’s the Busch family bought the property. The cabin was moved and reassembled approximately one mile from its original location, and was most recently restored in 1977, as a reminder of the man who gave the farm a start.
When you meet with your Affton tutor they will tell you the preservation of animal species is of vital importance to our ecosystem, and Grant’s farm takes that to heart. They have over 900 animals of 100 different species. On Grant’s farm, you might see Bison from North America, Black Buck Antelope from Europe, and Zebra from Africa. These animals roam free in a large pasture called Deer Park, where there are also large lakes filled Japanese Koi.
Some of these animals also perform in animal shows for educational purposes in Tier Garten. There you can ride a carousel or even a camel, stop in on a show, or just socialize with a variety of animal species including wallabies and even elephants! There is also a concession stand with snacks and beverages, and since admission is free to this wonderful farm, every penny spent on snacks and beverages goes towards preserving the farm for more generations.
Even a small town like Affton can be full of rich history and fun things to do. People from all around travel to see the farm. While many are busy meeting with their Affton tutors, it’s always nice to find time to do some fun things and make memories, and with a farm named after our 18th president as your destination, I’m sure your Affton tutor won’t mind!

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
