    About Yorba Linda

Nestled in the northeast corner of Orange County, Yorba Linda, California is only 37 miles from downtown Los Angeles. Originally part of a Mexican land grant, the site of present day Yorba Linda was first acquired by Spanish rancher Bernardo Yorba in 1834. The next year Yorba constructed a two-story adobe house with more than 50 rooms which came to be known as Yorba Hacienda. It was the largest adobe structure in California at the time. A stone marker indicates the site of the hacienda which is registered as a California Historical Landmark. Even after the U.S.-Mexican War Yorba and his family retained ownership of much of what would be officially named Yorba Linda, (“Beautiful Yorba” in Spanish) in 1907. At the same time farmers began planting lemon and orange groves, telephone service arrived and the city’s first school was built. For most of the first half of the 20th century the city remained small with citrus farmers and cattle ranchers dominating the population. By 1960, however, the city had grown significantly although it has endeavored over the years to maintain a small-town image. Indeed, Yorba Linda made Money magazine’s list of America’s best small cities in 2012. Yorba Linda has also been identified as one of the most affluent areas in the nation with median incomes exceeding $120,000.

It’s certain that a Yorba Linda tutor will keep you caught up on your academics so you can enjoy the many things to do in Yorba Linda and the rest of Orange County. The city is famous for having been the birthplace of Richard Nixon, the 37th U.S. president and the only one to end his tenure with resignation. Fittingly, Yorba Linda is the home of the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum. The museum features a wide range of exhibits exploring subjects such as the Vietnam War, Life in the White House and Watergate. Visitors can also climb aboard Army One, the presidential helicopter used by Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon. The restored helicopter is the same one which transported Nixon away from the White House after his resignation in August of 1974. The library is also the site of the house where Nixon was born in 1913. Nixon’s father built the house a year earlier and ran a citrus ranch on the property until 1922 when the family moved to Whittier.

For those who lean green nearby Cal State Fullerton is home to the Fullerton Arboretum, a 26-acre botanical garden featuring over 4,000 plants from all over the world. Opened in 1979, the arboretum’s collection includes plants from three different ecosystems, woodlands, Mediterranean and desert. The arboretum also offers rotating exhibits, community gardens, children’s garden and museum.

For something a little more fun, Yorba Linda is only a short drive away from the “Happiest Place on Earth,” otherwise known as Disneyland in nearby Anaheim. Built in the 1950’s by visionary entertainment entrepreneur Walt Disney, Disneyland and its sister park California Adventure have hosted tens of millions of visitors over the years. Attractions at Disneyland include Main Street, Adventureland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland.
