Xenia is a city in Ohio, that was named for its hometown hospitality, literally. Xenia is a Greek word that means hospitality. The town got its name after Reverend Robert Armstrong suggested it at a town meeting. Reverend Armstrong felt that the name was appropriate because of the hospitality he had received during his time in the community. When it came to a vote, there was a tie; and Laticia Device was invited to cast the deciding vote. Laticia voted for Xenia; and now the city is known for its hospitality, and for being the largest city in the United States that begins with the letter X.
Today, Xenia is also known as the new host of the Dayton Hamvention. The Dayton Hamvention is an amateur radio convention; and the world’s largest hamfest. The Dayton Hamvention moved to Xenia in 2017, after its venue in Trotwood, Ohio closed down. The first Dayton Hamvention was in 1952; and it has continued to grow in size and popularity ever since. The convention offers forums, exhibits, and a flea market; and every year over 20,000 visitors travel from all over the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to see what’s happening in the world of amatuer radio. There have even been visitors who traveled all the way from Australia, Japan, and Russia. The Dayton Hamvention is a big event in the world of ham radio.
Amateur or Ham Radio refers to using the radio frequency spectrum for non-commercial purposes. This includes exchanging messages, wireless experimentation, self-training, private recreation, radiosport contesting, and emergency communication. The idea behind ham radio is that it is not used for public or commercial purposes; but for personal use. Ham radio dates all the way back to the late 1800’s; but amateur radio as we think of it today, began in the early 1900’s. In fact, in 1909, the First Annual Official Wireless Blue Book of the Wireless Association of America was produced, and it contains a list of amateur radio stations. While a popular and enjoyable hobby, amateur radio users have actually contributed a great deal to science, engineering, industry, and social services. Amateur operators have moved beyond their personal recreation to found new industries, build economies, empower nations, and save lives. Some teachers even use ham radio in the classroom to tutor students in English, map skills, geography, math, science, and computer skills. Some may think that ham radio is just an old hobby that people did back before advancements like television and the internet; but Ham Radio enthusiasts are still found all over the world, leading the way in innovation and communication.

Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
