Just northwest of Denver, Colorado is the city of Westminster, a suburban town with a rich history and a high quality of life. With beautiful local landmarks, a gorgeous university, and a picturesque backdrop, Westminster is a wonderful place to live and an exciting place to visit.
As is true for many cities in this area of Colorado, Westminster can site the Gold Rush as being an influential factor in the early settlement in the area. The local Colorado Gold Rush began in the mid 1800s when gold was found in the South Platte River Valley, which is a prominent area of what is now Westminster. Along with the appeal of striking it rich, the Land Act was put into affect around the same time, encouraging settlers to head west to this area in Colorado. The Land Act also persuaded many to stay in Colorado instead of continuing further west into California.
Of course, long before theses white settlers arrived to the area that is now Westminster, there was life in this place. Arapaho tribes called this land home, and they hunted the wildlife in the area and lived along the river valley. Large herds of antelope and buffalo are also known to have lived in this area before white settlers began to develop the territory and settle into communities. This was all long before Westminster was formed.
A prominent building in Westminster is the Westminster Castle, which was built in the late 1800s. This grand building is unique and adds a lot of character to the town of Westminster. Westminster University is now located in Westminster Castle; can you imagine taking college courses in such a beautiful building? It is truly awe-inspiring and a testament to the history and culture of the area from centuries ago. Westminster University is actually the reason why Westminster has its name, interestingly enough.
Westminster is a city with a great education system in place. Families appreciate all of the educational resources available to their children. With a number of high schools, elementary schools, middle schools, and charter schools, there area also several private schools for residents to choose from. Parents appreciate the high level of dedication that local teachers put into providing students with the help they need to succeed. That being said, sometimes a little extra one-on-one help is needed, and local Westminster tutors are available to provide students with the additional guidance they need to succeed in their studies.
