About Littleton

South of Denver you will find the suburban town of Littleton, Colorado. A little city with a big personality, Littleton is located the Denver metropolitan area, providing residents with many resources and amenities of the big city. Many residents also find the commute from Littleton to Denver to be very easy, and so many choose to live in Littleton and work in Denver.

You might think that Littleton got its name because of its “little” size, but you would be wrong. Littleton actually got its name from an engineer from the eastern United States that had made his way out to Colorado to work on developing the irrigation networks in the area. Richard Sullivan Little saw the need that farmers were experiencing as this region of Colorado developed into a highly agricultural area. Irrigation was important for these farmers to achieve success with their crops. When Little came to the area, he fell in love with its beauty and all of the opportunity he saw, and he soon brought his family over to join him and settle in this place. As new industries arrived to the area, the community began to grow and thrive, and soon was incorporated as the town of Littleton.

Littleton gained a lot of national and international attention in the 1990s for a very sad and tragic reason. When news sources reported the tragedy of the Columbine High School shooting, Littleton was cited as the location, even though the high school where it took place was actually outside the city limits of Littleton. A nearby community, Columbine, is unincorporated, and so the location of the shooting was given as Littleton.

If you’re looking for art and culture in Littleton, look no further than the Littleton Symphony Orchestra. With shows throughout the year, the Littleton Symphony Orchestra has been performing since the mid 1980s, and has grown a lot since those first performances. The Littleton Symphony Orchestra is also known for putting on various holiday themed productions, which are local family favorites.

The Edwin A. Bemis Public Library is a wonderful resource in Littleton, providing residents with educational recourses, programs, and children’s services as well. Families that live in Littleton love taking their kids to the library, as there are always programs and activities to do here. For local students looking for a good place to meet with their local Littleton tutor, the library provides the perfect working environment for one-on-one help, as it has various meeting rooms available for a quiet workspace.
