Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

Working kids inspires me greatly: it makes me want to return that inspiration. They require patience and motivation to work with and teach, somehow i get my motivation from them and want to give back. Learning and studying and mastering subjects is hard and boring for many students, but its the perspective in which you present and deliver the material to them that makes it easier and more interesting. Many people are highly qualified for this job and 'Know' the material, but can they break it down and put it in a way that the child can absorb it not just for duty's sake but to understand why he or she is even there receiving tutoring or "must" learn all this stuff. tutoring can be extremely painful for children and seen as a punishment or a horribly boring place to be. How do we come up with ways to make them see education and learning as interesting, fun, and essential to their benefit. That's my basic attitude about it. In terms of reliability, actions speak louder than words: i pride myself on having a solid work ethic: that includes reliability, communication, adaptability to the environment, independence, and responsibility. I treat all my students as I would want my children to be treated if i dropped them off at such an institution.

From years of tutoring, I have been able to utilize patience and understanding. I understand what it's like not understanding material right away and from having two younger siblings, I am able to connect with the student and help them excel in learning.I am always on time or early to appointments and shifts (work-related). Being a college student and part-time employee I value being on time and respectful.

I believe I am an ideal candidate for Grade Potential. In my five years of teaching experience, I have lead innovative and engaging classes and have been dedicated to my students. I am sensitive to the needs of different students and I have invested considerable time and effort to make sure that all students have the skills and knowledge to succeed in the classes I have helped to teach. I consider myself passionate, dedicated, innovative, and accessible as a teacher.I am always thoroughly prepared and organized, I digest and synthesize material rapidly, and I have extensive knowledge on a wide array of subjects. I take pedagogy seriously, and I am always interested in and focused on being the best teacher I can be.I believe that I have a talent for connecting with and inspiring students. I possess well-developed communication skills, and present material in a way that students readily understand. I understand different styles of learning and work to create different kinds of activities that cater to different learning styles. I have lead interactive and collaborative classes, which got students involved and engaged in the course material. My class activities have been designed to move beyond basic knowledge, but in addition, to encourage students to engage the material with higher levels of critical and creative thinking. I am patient and supportive with students.In sum, my interest in teaching, ability to understand how different students learn, and ability to find effective strategies to teach them, make me an ideal candidate for Grade Potential.

Ever since I started high school, I have had a passion for tutoring and helping people learn. I myself love math and statistics, and nothing is better that solving a hard problem! My goal with tutoring is to bring this feeling to everyone that I work with. Math can be hard and frustrating, but I take every problem step by step and make sure that every concept is being illustrated clearly and understood. All I really want to do is help people learn, because it's one of the most important things in life. Not only do I enjoy tutoring, but I am also a very reliable person, so all the appointments that I make will be kept as promised.I have tutored mainly elementary and middle school children in both math and reading, but also have some experience with high schoolers. I worked as a teacher's assistant for two years at an elementary school and helped with homework. Also during this time, I tutored fellow classmates at Berkeley High school weekly after school as part of the AP math program. I also spent a summer tutoring math at a charter school in Oakland, CA, and also tutored children in my neighborhood who needed math help. I was also a tutor with Reading Partners, and went weekly to a school in Oakland to teach reading basics to my elementary buddy.

I have tutored both with tutoring companies and independently. I tutored for Atelier Tutoring in Los Angeles for three years, and am still tutoring one student via Skype for that company (at the student's request). Atelier prefers to have their tutors work face-to-face, so my move to Santa Barbara unfortunately took me out of their area. For Atelier, I was primarily a Latin tutor for students from 7th-12th grade, although I also helped with writing and history. Independently, I have tutored graduate students who needed to pass a Latin exam as a requirement for English or Theology Ph.D.s.

First, I would be a successful tutor with Grade Potential because I am very passionate about sharing my love of learning. French has been a big part of my life since I began learning the language in second grade. Over the summers I’ve attended French camps, I studied abroad in France my junior year of college, and I’m excited to be going back to live in France beginning in October. Growing up with a love and appreciation for a second language has made me enthusiastic about sharing the ability to learn French with other students.Furthermore, as I have previously served as both a tutor and teacher, I understand the difference between simply teaching a student and facilitating comprehension by allowing the student to teach him or herself. As a tutor, I can knowledgeably guide the student toward understanding without simply providing all of the answers. I am also a reliable, focused person. The academic atmosphere of my university has prepared me well for the precision, perseverance, and communication competence required to be a tutor. The high expectations held by professors and administrators of the school have also required me to cultivate the ability to manage time wisely, as well as keep track of appointments and other obligations.Additionally, I enjoy working with children. I have been a babysitter for over 10 years, I've been a counselor at a few different day camps, and I have taught children in a school setting. I understand the challenges involved with working with students, but I find great reward in the moments when a student grasps a concept or begins to understand how to proceed through a subject they've been stuck on.

I relate well to students, I am competent in my field, and I enjoy helping others learn. You could go back to my tutoring client I had previously, and ask her how reliable I was for appointments. I was always prompt and made every meeting that we set.

I connect with the people I work for and then I adapt what I need to do to help them. Sometimes it's through games or jokes, other times it's through repetition. Learning should be fun and come easy to those who want it. It's my job to help them want it. There were two instances where I wasn't able to help and both times the person didn't need a tutor, one needed a baby sitter, the other knew what he was doing he just made a mistake or two and his parents were flipping out about a 91% on a "where is everyone at" test. If you see the merit in me leaving these clients then I would love to work for you... If you think I'm a risk because of this then I don't want to work for a company whose motivation is profit instead of helping people. My motivation is to help others and I want to work for a company that is motivated by the same.
