I would make a good tutor because I have 8 years of classroom teaching experience and have already been tutoring a few students independently since 2016. Tutoring others in mathematics is a passion of mine given that I myself was not always adept or particularly skilled in mathematics. It was through perseverance, and with the help of others, that I was eventually able to graduate with a minor in mathematics with a 3.9 in my minor classes. During my senior year at state I became a Supplemental Instruction Leader helping others in a historically difficult course.As a Supplemental Instruction Leader I prepared over 250 hours worth of material around lecture content in order to aid students in San Diego State University’s Introduction to Linear Algebra course. The course has historically had high-rates of failing students which in the last few years has been alleviated through the use of S.I. I conducted one hour sessions with anywhere from one to twenty students. The sessions focused primarily upon weekly content, but also synthesized the material to prepare students for midterms throughout the semester. Students who attended Supplemental Instruction sessions on average earned a letter grade higher than those who did not.As a S.I. Leader I learned how to communicate complex mathematical topics in simple ways from multiple perspectives. I introduced students to topics in the manner in which they learn best i.e. geometrically, analytically, or computationally. This led students to more easily grasp a topic and synthesize it into the overall material. I can supply some of my original worksheets or material upon request.I’m excited to continue on my journey of helping others in mathematics. I have tutored since graduating in 1982. The students indicate i have a way for them to get the math. They wish I would even teach math in their class the way I tutor them after school. I use relevant examples that apply to their own lives. I also have no problem making a commitment to seeing them through their finals if the need arises.

I have experience as a special needs teacher for a junior high classroom (grades 6-8). I taught math, history, science, and english. Additionally, I was a teacher's assistant for 1st and 2nd grade. In this role I also stayed after school to tutor kids 1-on-1, helping with their homework.As an English major, I have great skills in reading, writing, spelling and vocabulary for all ages. I would be comfortable tutoring elementary and middle school students in all subjects, and tutoring english subjects for all ages. I have even been hired to consult on the college application essay.I am very reliable and dependable. It is important to me that I am a consistent presence with my students and that they succeed. I am patient and will try to understand all components of the assignment so as to best explain it to the student. I am a great communicator and will keep parents updated on the child's progress.

I honestly have a passion for teaching and helping other people achieve their goals. I hope to one day teach English at the high school level, as I consider teaching to be one the only worthy careers to pursue. There is nothing more satisfying to me than knowing I genuinely helped someone better themselves.I do not have any prior teaching experience at this time, however, I have been recommend by one of my professors to work in my college's Writing Center this coming school year, where I will be helping my fellow students mainly with the composition of their papers.As to my reliability, you can contact my current and previous employers who will attest to my lack of tardiness and the rarity of sick days taken. I have been tutoring for 10 plus years (since mid high school.) Early on I found an ease in explaining complex concepts in a way that the student can relate to; this usually involves analogies or pulling from the student's particular strengths. When working with a student I like to empower them to make their own choices and so mistakes; I have found this helps them learn from their mistakes.
