Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I would be a good tutor for Grade Potential because I truly love working with kids. I love how excited they become when they finally understand a topic that they had previously struggled with. Tutoring is something I enjoy doing not only because it allows me to help others understand material, but it also forces me to keep all the information I once learned fresh in my mind rather than forgetting it all because it's not necessary in my daily life.I fully believe that you would be able to rely on me to keep my appointments and fulfill commitments because I have always been the type of person that can be counted on. I am punctual and reliable in my day to day business, and work is no different. In my life I have had two different jobs and I can truthfully say that I have never missed a day of work.

In all of my years of school, I have always been enrolled in the advanced classes of my subjects. I took advanced placement and honors courses in high school in which I competed with the most dedicated of students. Furthermore, I was involved in numerous extra-curriculars that also required dedication and responsibility. I was the senior class treasurer for my class, I was involved in school organizations such as National Honor Society and Key Club, and I played numerous sports during my fours years such as basketball, baseball and soccer. I was able to help friends with homework giving me experience in teaching others difficult material. In addition to teaching, I would be taught by students therefore I have a understanding, from a students perspective, what is required to ease the difficulty of learning new material. Through patience, effective communication and guidance, my students will learn the materials themselves.

I would be a good tutor because I enjoy helping others and I want to become a teacher in the future. I know that I would be able to teach the students the material that is required because I work well with others and I would make it fun to learn and not boring. You could count on me because I have reliable transportation, and I know this would be a great oppurtunity to refine my skills for once I become a teacher.

Well this is a tricky question; I can't imagine I'll be able to say much of substance that others won't say, but to give a genuine answer here is to give a complex one. The short of it: because I am obsessed with learning, I am obsessed with teaching.Notably, as a philosophy major I am obsessed with the way in which we understand the world around us. The difficulties people face in understanding mathematics, for instance, say far less about people and their understanding than they do about the actual nature of mathematics itself, both as a realm of human knowledge and as a formalized discipline with certain social trends and rules. As such, I am very engaged with trying to find ways in which difficult-to-understand subjects can be approached with more ease, as it may shed light on the core of their foundation in our thought.I realize this answer sounds somewhat silly, but those are my honest thoughts on the matter; in any case, whether I'm GOOD at teaching things as a result of being simply interested in it--I can only say that I myself am confident in myself and my abilities.As to my reliability, I can only say that if I have a strong anxiety in life it's that I am not fulfilling people's expectations of me. And so, I do everything in my power to not disappoint people and to not let people down when I've made a commitment to them.

I have been taking supplemental workshops since freshman year last year, and one of the components of the class is teaching your fellow students (as a way to really learn the material). This includes group discussions, on on one explanations, and going up to the board to teach it to the class. I am a hard worker, and I strive to thoroughly learn the material in my classes. I am most confident in tutoring Bio 162, however I am confident that I would make a good tutor in pre-alg and alg as well! I am also a very punctual and trustworthy leader in and out of the classroom. I work as a swim instructor over the summer, which, though very different than teaching academia, is similar in that it involves working with children/peers to improve their skills. A well, I made the Dean's List (in the department of Science and Mathematics) this past quarter and I am a notetaker for the Student Disabilities Resource Center. I earned the International Baccalaureate Diploma from my high school, when I graduated in 2011.

I am currently looking for some part-time work and I think tutoring would be a good fit for me. I love teaching kids new things and helping them figure out with learning methods work best for them. I have also been interested in becoming a teacher eventually in my life. I have always been a strong student in the math department and I once was a struggling student who really needed help. I found that my teachers would always present concepts in very complicated hard to understand ways and I had to learn how to "dumb it down" for myself and really understand the material. I feel like I would do a good job putting concepts in simpler terms and helping students understand the basics better to move on to more complicated aspects. I am very responsible and take job responsibilities very seriously. I have held multiple jobs in the past and make sure that I am a dependable employee at all times. Preparing for the future, it is very beneficial to practice being responsible and professional now and that is what I have always done in the past.

I think I would be a good tutor because I have had previous experience tutoring with great results. I also am very good with working with others and have a calming presence. I grew up with a large family and understand how to work with different age groups. I understand how to be stern, but also not scare students. I am a very reliable person. I am always on time and extremely organized. I keep a calendar with all my task and always commit to what I have to do. If for whatever reason I can not make an appointment, I make sure to give as much notice as possible and reschedule immediately.I began tutoring when I was 16 years old. I tutored for many of my younger brothers friends (2 years younger) while I was in high school in math and science subjects. I also tutored for my younger sisters in Algebra 1 while in junior high school. In college I helped out with friends and lead study groups. I also worked at Santa Maria high school in a chemistry class as a tutor.

I have taught snowboarding to children and my kids ALWAYS got out of the learning zone and to the bunny slope. Every day. Plus they had a blast because kids just love me. I've taught English in Santiago, Chile to adults and my students (mainly adult) really enjoyed my classes. I still talk to several of them fairly regularly. Finally, I've worked with children with autism via the Koegel Autism Consultants based at UCSB. Wonderful experience, easily my most rewarding work experience to date.
