Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

The main reason I am a good tutor is that I care about my students. I want to see them succeed and feel good about their achievements. I am a dedicated, hard-working tutor who seeks a "home" in the work environment so that I don't have to keep seeking new jobs!It is very important for me to have at least 30 hours per week so that I can sustain myself financially. This has been the difficulty with tutoring positions in the past. There were times, with ETAS and Carney and Arriba that I had full schedules and those were very productive times for me and for my students.I am adaptable, friendly, easy going, kind, dependable. Children love me! I have had little students wait outside their homes onn the steps waiting for me eagerly. I do prefer to teach in the library and usually develop a very nice relationship with the librarians so that they know me and my students and often help us with special projects. I enjoyed the Oxnard library and the small Ventura library who were so accommodating to me and my students. Many of my students are Spanish-only speakers, so I often had to utilize my Spanish.

I have a significant amount of experience dealing with children and helping them out with schoolwork. I love working with children, which makes me very comfortable with tutoring them. In addition to my experience working with children, I have often times helped my classmates in college understand concepts and material presented in class. So if I was needed to tutor college students, I would also be comfortable with that. Other than my teaching/tutoring experience, I am a very reliable person who has always had exemplary attendance rates in school, at jobs, at volunteering events, and all other attendance mandatory positions. As a tutor for Grade Potential, I can promise that I would never miss an appointment or be late to an appointment unless I had an approved excuse from the company. I believe that education is very important, especially for children. So I would make sure that I would provide the best tutor service to my ability to ensure that the children I would work with would be getting the best education that they could.

During the years I was a full time classroom teacher, there was a gradual progression of emphasis on individualization of instruction. I became more and more experienced in discovering the particular needs of each student and trying to design a learning plan to meet those needs. At one point I developed a Math Lab program for 12th graders who had not passed the Math proficiency test. As far as RELIABILITY is concerned, I am a man of my word. If I say something or agree to do something, you can take it to the bank.

I have a good rapport with students of all ages and an outgoing personality. I am patient with people and if they don't "get" something I find another way to present the information. I have good references for reliability (I can give you the literacy council coordinator at my current site). I am inventive and make learning fun. When a subject requires extra time on my part in order to be prepared, I put in the time needed even when not paid for that time.

I would be a good tutor for Grade Potential because I am very knowledgeable about biology and am an excellent communicator. I am great at finding multiple ways to explain something that it hard for students to understand. When giving an explanation, I always put it into the terms they understand it in. I am also a reliable hard-worker who is always on time.

I am an extremely reliable employee. I take pride in doing my job well and require no supervision to do it. I have a strong work ethic with many (8 years) experience in Customer Service. I was a great student and even skipped 3rd grade because of my understanding of basic math. Numbers have always come easy to me and now I work in accounting. I'm looking for something in the evenings and weekends as I plan on continuing my full time job.

I have been a teacher in a variety of different settings since the fall of 2004. My favorite moments, in each and every setting is when a child has that "ah-ha" moment. In each situation, a different strategy was used. I value my myriad teaching experiences, although working at a charter school as a mixed aged teacher for the past 4 school years has given me a number of tools. For three years I was a teacher of a mixed age classroom for grades 4th-6th; talking about needing a good system for differentiation! Then, our school changed grade level configurations, and I taught a mixed group of 5th and 6th grade for a year.I know strategies for struggling readers, I can teach the same math concept in many different ways and I love teaching writing. In fact, I love all subjects and being a life long learner. Certainly my motivation for learning spreads to each of my students and we feed off of eachother's energy. If they're excited, I'm excited and vice versa. Because I am a life-long learner I have taken professional development in language arts, math and science.An important part to teaching is continual assessment. Not necessarily tests, but my professional observations of how well a classroom is understanding what is being taught. It is a continual cycle of teach-monitor-reteach. And, I love finding a different way for kids to grasp a concept. I also find it is really important to make students part of the process and get them involved in their own learning and goal setting. As a tutor, it is especially important that I be able to track a student's progress and make sure he or she is achieving the goals that have been set. It's never okay to assume a child understands something, simply because it's been covered.It's easy to say that I will be a reliable person, but I find this to be one of the most important aspects of teaching. If students can't rely on their teacher, everything else is lost. My students know what to expect from me, because I am reliable. They know to be prepared for the day, because I have come to school prepared. Of course reliability takes on a whole new level with Grade Potential. I can assure you, that I will always be on time and prepared. It is how you earn the trust of your students, and without trust it's hard to learn.

As a teacher I have developed my skills to assess, adapt, and meet the needs of the individual student. I am excellent at finding the students learning style and able to develop the appropriate program needed for that student. I am an extremely organized and scheduled individual, I can adapt when necessary.
