Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I have two different degrees which allowed me to cover a broad variety of subjects. I have worked in professional environments and know how to hold myself to high standards. If I am in over my head and unable to teach the subject matter(which would be unlikely at the high school level) I will promptly inform your company and not try to wast each others time.

I would be a great tutor because I am very patient and I am willing to sit with a student for as long as it takes for them to fully understand a topic. I also have a great deal of math and science experience due to my major, which will be very helpful in tutoring the classes I have chosen

I find a great sense of purpose and satisfaction in helping others to more clearly communicate and organize their thoughts. I have always enjoyed writing and reading, but over the last three years as I worked as a tutor at Cal Poly, I realized how effective I could be as a tutor, and how much I genuinely enjoyed tutoring. Working one-on-one with student writers who needed a guide to help sharpen their focus, I found that I was not only helping the student writers to improve their grades, but I was helping them to liberate themselves, and to become better at communicating their ideas. My tutoring experience has inspired me and I think I can bring that sense of purpose, an infectious enthusiasm, and a drive for success to Grade Potential.

Teaching students is one of my most favorite and rewarding experiences, because I take great pride and joy in perpetuating knowledge and inspiring learning. As I contribute to the students’ intellectual growth by teaching them, I am also able to gain new perspectives on various topics and re-examine key issues both by conveying my knowledge and by sharing thoughts and ideas with them , which would eventually help me become a better and a more productive teacher.I am mostly delighted to see my students turn from a classroom with strangers to an intellectual community as the semester progresses.Gathering information about their backgrounds, both educational and professional, in the first day of class would greatly help me to adjust my manner of instruction in accordance to the unique atmosphere of each class. Inspiring interest in the subject would be the first step towards achieving my ultimate goal as a teacher. In order to achieve this goal, I should place students in the very center of my lesson planning process and would try to create an atmosphere that encourages participation and involvement. I would strive to achieve this through relating course studied material to real business matters and through discussions among students and team work, both online and offline. Once interest in the subject has been established developing thinking skills should be ranked second. They should be motivated to become insightful thinkers and view education as a self guided, lifelong process, for which we are responsible to lay the foundations at school. In order to achieve this objective I encourage brain¬storming sessions, group projects, and group presentations, which would also allow for each student’s personality and his/her unique capabilities to stand out. Fostering communication and sharing of ideas and opinions among students will greatly influence their learning experience. If genuinely self-motivated, lifelong learning is to take place it would help students not only have productive careers, but overall development of the students in regard to their personalities, their world outlook would occur, thus enabling them to grow as critically informed and active citizens of their communities and the world. As I know well from my distance learning experience at the University of Massachusetts, the interactivity of the classes can be achieved as effectively both in an online and the traditional offline teaching setting. The best assessment of my teaching quality and style would be the students’ evaluations at the end of each course. The questions they ask about graded quizzes, assignments and papers should also serve as a great self-assessment tool as to how well I am doing as a teacher. Nevertheless, the greatest reward for me as a teacher comes with the time. As my students remember me and come back to me from time to time with all their questions, comments or just to say ‘Thank you” it just means everything to me. I have offered my relationship to them; they liked the idea, accepted it and welcomed it!

I feel that I would be a good tutor for Grade Potential because I do have experience with tutoring all levels of students. I am responsible and dedicated to my commitment as you can see from my long term commitments throughout high school. I am able to "know my stuff" because of my academic record. I had a cumulative GPA of 4.7 when I graduated from high school, having a 5.0 both junior and senior year. I graduated fourth in my class, and have now entered UCSB's Honors program upon admission. My extensive work in AP classes has earned me enough credits to start with enough credits to be a sophomore as a first year student. I truly am willing to put one hundred percent effort into helping others and staying committed and reliable.

I think I would be a good tutor because I really love learning, and I love kids. I have worked 10+ years with kids in various different occupations (babysitting, nannying, arts and nature camp, swim lessons, preschool, tutoring) and feel that I can connect with them on their level and make them realize how awesome learning is. My dad is a teacher for a continuation high school, and was awarded Teacher of the Year in California a few years back, and I feel like his philosophy is a very good one: find out what interests the kids, makes them hungry to learn, and capitalize on that. Relate lessons to their own lives, make it fun and interesting and not all text book based. I am passionate about living and traveling and learning all I can - I wish to impart that zest to the kids I work with. I have been in school, working on farms, playing music, working and traveling for about 7 years now, and just settled down with a family, and am ready to get back into the work force! I have many good references and have never been fired.

I've worked as an art teacher for young children after volunteering for a year to teach kids one on one basic art skills. I made the commitment in September to the Art Direction that I would come once or twice a week to help out until the end of the school year, and I kept my word. About halfway through, the staff told me out of all the volunteers they've ever had, I had stayed the longest. I would love to tutor English and Literature as I feel far more competent and passionate about those subjects. I would enjoy the challenge and rewards of communicating the value, art and meaning of literature and literacy to younger people.

I believe I have always had a knack for putting things in simple, easy-to-understand terms for people. I communicate well and always choose common terminology and language to technical language and jargon.As a tutor, I will focus on making sure my students meet their goals, learn to study well on their own, and develop a fascination for the subject (as much as possible!).Because of my leadership experience with ASB and various extracurricular clubs and events, I know firsthand how important it is to be on time (or even early) to an event. I am always on time and would never be tardy to an important event.
