    About Edina

Edina, Minnesota, loves artists. The city understands that a thriving arts community is important to the city’s well-being, and to prove it, the city hosts two major outdoor art festivals each year: the Edina Art Fair and the Fall into the Arts Festival. The city has also established an Arts and Culture Commission whose job is to guide and support artistic endeavors throughout Edina. If that weren’t enough, Edina is also home to several entities that give Edina residents a variety of art experiences. Following is a short description of some of Edina’s best art initiatives:

    Edina Art Fair
Ranked the top art fair in Minnesota and the top fifty nationally, the Edina Art Fair features 280 artists from Minnesota, Canada, and the United States. The fair began in 1966 as a small craft and book fair; it now welcomes over 200,000 visitors. Sponsored by the 50th & France Business Association, which represents 175 neighborhood businesses, the fair offers live music and entertainment, a beer garden, community art projects, three food courts, and a kid zone.

    Fall into the Arts Festival
Held the second weekend in September at the beautiful Centennial Lakes Park, Edina’s Fall into the Arts Festival is a fundraiser for the Edina Crime Prevention Fund. The festival draws more than 250 artists and exhibitors showing off their fiber arts, wood arts, paintings, jewelry, pottery, photography, sculpture, glass art, and wearable art.

    Edina Art Center
The Edina Art Center is a place for the community to attend artistic and cultural events, view art exhibits in the Margaret Foss Gallery, and to create art. The center offers classes in drawing, painting, pottery, and more, all taught by professional artists, giving the same rich experience as if hiring an art tutor in Edina. There is also a gift shop featuring handmade arts and crafts from 275 local and regional artists, studios for rent, and an art-supply store.

    Public Art Edina
Established in 2004, this volunteer group of residents and professional artists advises the Edina Arts and Culture Commission on ways to bring art to public spaces. Each January, the group extends a call for sculptures and selects entries to be displayed around town. Each selected sculpture is displayed for one year.

    Art of Edina
Yet another resource for Edina artists, the Art of Edina is a program that helps both established and emerging artists publicly display their art. Program coordinators approach local businesses to secure wall space in high-traffic areas that can be turned into galleries. Art of Edina volunteers curate, print with a museum-grade printer (originals are not displayed), and install the galleries. Exhibits last for three months, after which a new collection is installed. The program is directed by Jill Emmer of Shine On Photos, LLC and backed by the Tradition Companies.

Edina clearly is a community clearly supportive of its artists. Hiring a professional tutor in Edina gives budding art students more time to create and participate in Edina’s thriving art scene.
