East Palo Alto is an up and coming city in the San Francisco Bay Area. Geographically, East Palo Alto is located almost smack dab in between San Francisco and San Jose, as it is south of San Francisco and north of San Jose. Interestingly enough, East Palo Alto is not the east portion of the city of Palo Alto, and this sometimes confuses people who are not familiar with the area. East Palo Alto is very much its own, separate city, and it even resides in a different county from Palo Alto. And, another confusing factor, it is not located geographically "east" of Palo Alto! In fact, East Palo Alto is north of the city of Palo Alto. Despite its somewhat confusing name, East Palo Alto is an exciting place to live, in the heart of the Silicon Valley's technology industry, and promises a high quality of life to its residents.

East Palo Alto is relatively racially diverse, especially when compared to surrounding cities. Because of various local ordinances and housing programs, East Palo Alto has enabled a wider variety of families from diverse backgrounds to settle here. For this reason, many people find that East Palo Alto is a very desirable place to live and raise a family, with a diverse cultural awareness and access to many cultural traditions and ways of life.

Considered to be a very safe city today, this hasn't always been true of East Palo Alto. In fact, years ago East Palo Alto was quite the opposite. With a high crime rate and a high homicide rate, East Palo Alto was a nation concern in the 1980s and 1990s. The local government took the problem very seriously, and thanks to local legislation and programs that have gone into affect to help remediate the situation, East Palo Alto has reversed the issue and is now considered to be a very safe city in which to live and raise a family.

Served by several public school districts, East Palo Alto families have a number of choices when it comes to choosing the right educational options for their children. Beyond public schools, there are also several high quality private schools and charter schools to choose form, as well.
