    About Dublin

Dublin is a city in Ohio, that hosts the largest three day Irish festival in the world. The Dublin Irish Festival is a music and cultural festival that attracts over 100,000 visitors each year. Those visitors come to enjoy the live music, food and drinks, dancing, cultural exhibits, games, sports, arts and crafts, a dog show, and a whole host of children’s activities. The Dublin Irish Festival Academy is also there, hosting classes led by DIF performers who introduce attendees to Irish music and culture.

The Dublin Irish Festival was started in 1988, by a small group of dancers and a band called the Irish Brigade. That first festival was so small that it was held on a local tennis court. So much has changed since the first gathering in the late 80’s; but the heart of the festival has remained the same. The Dublin Irish Festival was created to bring the community together and tutor visitors about the nation of Ireland and its rich traditions. Organizers strive to create a safe family friendly event, that inspires visitors to fall in love with the Irish culture. In 1992, the City of Dublin became the Festival's main sponsor; and in 1993 attendance spiked to over 10,000 visitors. On the 10th anniversary of the Dublin Irish Festival, the Guinness Book of World Records recorded the largest ever, Irish Jig. Today, the festival has grown from the small tennis court to a huge venue with seven stages that host sixty-five acts and more than five hundred and thirty-five performers.

For the kids, there are several free activities including magicians, storytellers, and Irish dance lessons. There is even a competition for the reddest hair, greenest eyes, and most freckles. Special kid vendors allow kids the opportunity to make candy, get their faces painted and more. There is also the Pot O’Gold Playland with a game area, inflatable rides, and a climbing wall.

For the adults, there are several beverage tastings, including beer, Irish whiskey and mead. There is even a special stout that is brewed exclusively for the event. There are also several sporting events including a cornhole and darts tournament, and the more traditional Highland Heavyweight Games. Contestants get to try their hand at the caber toss, stone put, weight throw, weight-over-bar, sheaf toss, and hammer toss. On Sunday, the festival hosts a traditional Irish and an American breakfast; and several Sunday services including a Catholic Mass in Irish Gaelic and English, an Episcopal Eucharist Service, and a Druid Service. There really is something for everyone.

Dublin tutors want all students to do well in school. If your student is struggling in school, a Dublin tutor could be just what you need. Every student deserves the chance to succeed.
