Gahanna is the city known as, “The Herb Capital of Ohio;” and is home to Gahanna’s Herbal Trail. The Herbal Trail takes visitors throughout the city to different outdoor spaces, shops, restaurants, health and wellness retreats, eco-learning centers, and of course the Ohio Herb Education Center. The self-guided walking tour includes some of Gahanna’s most popular attractions, including beautiful scenic areas, and impressive historic buildings.
While on the trail, visitors enjoy seeing all kinds of herbs on the walking paths of Creekside Park, in the Sunburst Herbal Garden and Friendship Park’s Community Gardens, and in the Gahanna Historical Settlement. They can also stop by the National Certified Wildlife Habitat; where if they’d like, they can take a tour and learn about the medicinal and culinary uses of herbs during the 1800’s. Along the way, they can also see the Geroux Gardens. The Geroux Gardens are named after Jane “Bunnie” Geroux, who is credited with leading the movement that helped Gahanna become recognized as, “The Herb Capital of Ohio.” The Geroux Gardens consists of several herb collections including the Culinary Garden, the Biblical Garden, and the Medicinal Garden.
If visitors get hungry on the trail, there are several culinary options to choose from. One popular spot is Cafe Creekside, the oldest location in downtown Gahanna. While much of the building has been redone, it still stands on its original foundation; and reminds the community of their rich history. The building was originally a tavern, and the home of the toll collector who collected fees from people traveling over the covered bridge that once crossed Big Walnut Creek. Today, the building is home to Cafe Creekside, a great place to stop for breakfast and lunch. The chef at Cafe Creekside uses fresh seasonal herbs that he picks from the restaurant’s outdoor planters. This fresh and delicious cuisine is a great way to refuel and experience some of the herbs seen on the trail.
Another important stop on the Herbal Trail is the Ohio Herb Education Center. The center is located in the Nafzger-Miller house; a house that was originally built in 1855, and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The center was founded by Jane “Bunnie” Geroux, and was her way of helping the Gahanna community find their love and appreciation for herbs. The center strives to teach the public how to use herbs, and all the benefits they have for health, wellness, and quality of life. At the center you can get tutored in successful gardening, how to incorporate herbs into your meals, use them for cleaning, and integrate them into all areas of life. The Herbal Trail is a great way to enjoy nature and see all that Gahanna has to offer. It also helps visitors see why it became, “the Herb Capital of Ohio.”

Families share goals and scheduling preferences through a short intake. That information becomes a learner profile. Grade Potential then introduces your profile to a professional independent tutor whose background aligns. Once the tutor accepts, you’re introduced directly and sessions can begin.
Our packages are highly customizable based on your budget, preferred session cadence, time frame, location, and a few other factors. You’ll be presented with clear pricing before you begin. We support families in choosing the session length and cadence that works best for their individual situation; no hard sales tactics and no obligation to purchase a long-term package.
