I feel I would be a good choice for Grade Potential because I am passionate about education and helping each student do the best they possibly can. I have been an educator for ten years and it is something I have dedicated my life to, not just a summer job or extra cash. Over the last ten years I have held a variety of positions in the field of education and it is through this breadth of experience that I have developed an ability to quickly adapt a lesson or discussion to best fit a students specific needs. I am very patient and have experience teaching learners of all ages and abilities.Another reason I would be a strong team member for Grade Potential is that I am very reliable. I believe in always being early and not making people wait for me. A person who is often late sends the message that their time is more valuable than the person's who is waiting for them and I find this unacceptable.

I love working with students because tutoring is how I built my foundation for my own knowledge. Sometimes, it is not professors that relay information most efficiently, but other peers. I, long (long!) ago, was once a struggling student, and I know how it feels to be stuck and down in the dumps. I feel that since I have found ways to excel past these adversities, I can help and influence other students to do the same.In terms of reliability, I have large gaps and days where I end my classes at Poly early. Since I'm not taking any labs this quarter I'm always back at home and ready to work as soon as class is over. Having a small chunk of classes each day keeps me on my feet, as well as gets me up early to be productive. I have a car, a phone, and a diligent personality so I see NO problems of me fulfilling my appointments and commitments.

I have worked in a variety of educational settings. When I attended Taft College, I was a math-lab tutor, which entailed working with lots of students in different math classes on a walk-in basis. I also took a correquite course for tutors that focused on study skills, note taking skills, and communication skills including the Socratic Method. It was an amazing experience, but quite hectic near finals time. Nonetheless, I was able to juggle many students' needs at one time.When I attended Allan Hancock College, I worked for their tutoring center. I largely worked as an individual tutor, occasionally groups of two, which meant that I helped students by appointment rather than on a walk-in basis.In Santa Cruz, I worked as a para-educator for Costanoa Continuation High School, where I tutored individuals and groups for various subjects and projects.At UCSC, I was hired as a peer tutor for calculus and French and participated in a correquisite mentorship program. The program emphasized the affective, cognitive, and metacognitive needs of students. It covered techniques such as "think-pair-share" and "socratic seminar" for small groups. We also focused on listening skills in order to determine a student's background in, current understanding of, and attitude toward the subject for which he or she has sought help, and act accordingly. Tutors in the program also had mandatory observations conducted by peers and supervisors.Many aspects of tutoring are embedded within the teaching profession. As a student teacher, I continued to help students individually when they wanted it. I still tutor students when I substitute teach.

I am an experienced teacher. When I say experienced, I mean that I have taught grades 3-12 in combination classrooms. Each of these grade combinations were at least 4 grades at a time with on average 3 students per grade. In this experience, I was able to give students individualized instruction and meet their individual goals. I had to be "fluent" in many different subject matters at the same time and be able to communicate knowledge to varieties of learning levels in order for them to understand it at their grade level.I am punctual and always on time. I take these qualities very seriously. I also know how important it is to use the time you have and not waste a minute. I recently completed a part time position teaching Math Intervention to first-sixth grade students where I worked with them for 30 min at a time. I would stress the importance of being on time from class to them and get working on our lessons right away. Once I am committed to a student and their learning, I see it through to the end.

As a student, I am very punctual and organised. I strive to achieve as much as I can, I graduated high school at age 16 in 2011 and have been a college student since. I also am very flexible with scheduling, as school is my only commitment at the moment. I feel I would be great at tutoring because students in my classes come to me often for help. I care about the education of other people as well as myself and want to do the best I can to help others learn. I am also adaptable to any learning style a student may have.

I take great pride in working with youth and helping students achieve their potential. My high school experiences, including coaching various sports and assisting others with homework , led me to apply to Cal Poly as a Liberal Studies major. Since beginning my undergraduate course of study, my knowledge and passion regarding education has grown immensely. This opportunity would not only be a job for me, this would be a building block toward becoming an education professional and something I would be happy to do. My motivation for being punctual and reliable is maximizing a young person's opportunity to learn. My experience in the elementary school setting, learning about various methods of communication and understanding, and my knowledge base, make me a great candidate as a tutor for Grade Potential.

I worked as a literacy tutor at America Reads, where I tutored underprivileged children from kindergarten to third grade in reading and writing. Additionally, I created and coordinated educational activities for groups of 1-4 students and provided one-on-one attention to students who needed extra help on assignments. I also have a passion for education and learning and am constantly helping my friends and roommates with studying and editing their papers.

I would be a good tutor for Grade Potential because I'm passionate about teaching. I love to teach and I love to serve others. Tutoring is a very satisfying job because you are helping others to be success in school. I am very responsible about everything I do. I have experience tutoring many different kinds of people. At Allan Hancock, I saw many students whose struggled to understand the material. My job was to present the information in the way that would help them understand the subject better. I developed a lot of patience at Allan Hancock. Many people work as tutor in place like Cal Poly SO, where Its much easier to tutor because of the type of students they encounter. The students at Hancock are academically different than students at a high school or a four-year university.
