Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

For decades I have been a highly motivated, experienced, effective, and successful teacher and tutor at all levels from secondary through post-graduate. If I can assist students in achieving their educational and personal goals, that is my greatest fulfillment and satisfaction in life! We start on time, end on time, and strive for excellence in between! :-) I have tutored secondary students in English, ESL, and ASL. I have tutored college students in ASL, and I have tutored deaf college students in English. The latter three are my preference.

I was in the classroom for 12 years, so I understand how important consistency and reliability are for a child. I think my experience in the classroom, as well as with my own two children (one of which is on the Autism Spectrum), help me the teach students in a one-on-one setting. I started a parent volunteer program in my kids' school so I have trained parents on how to read with children in a small group or individually. I have a lot of materials available to use and I am always staying up to date on current trends in education by using social media and other online resources. I have tutored independently for several years, starting when I was in college. I have also worked with a tutoring business where I tutored in their location.

Throughout my life and my educational career I have always been an above average student. I have consistently put in the time and effort to be successful with any task that has been thrown my way. Although, I haven't had specific tutoring experience previously, I know the tactics and tools to use when trying to help another individual understand a certain concept or subject matter. I am a friendly, personable person who cares about the education and success of others. I only want to help others become successful and achieve all that they want. Being able to help someone achieve their goals is the most inspiring and fulfilling thing I think anyone can do. I want to be the person who helps someone achieve what they want and working with students and their education is definitely a step in that direction and possibly the most important step. I have worked around children before, so I understand how they think and operate. I know that I am not any better, or smarter, or anything of the sort more than anyone else. I also am always on time, or actually early in fact. I can keep a schedule with appointments and make sure to get everything I need finished in time for that appointment and that student. I am almost complete with my 16 year course of education and only hope to help someone else move successfully through their own course of education.

Helping others get through something that is challenging for them is something that provides fulfillment for me. My understanding of math and science is very good, as demonstrated by my pursuit of an engineering degree from Cal Poly. During high school I took AP Calculus, AP Chemsity, AP Biology, and AP physics and received scores of 5 on all of the AP tests, so I know what it takes to succeed in these types of classes. Although I have never worked as a tutor, I have been a soccer coach to lower class level high schoolers and have demonstrated an ability to teach key techniques and concepts of the game to them. All of my previous employers will attest to my reliability in the work place. Whenever I schedule commitments I make sure that I follow through with them. If given the chance to work as a tutor, my commitment would drive me to make sure that the student had the requisite knowledge and understanding to achieve their goals.

I am a very reliable and patience person. I use to work at Starbucks and my manager would constantly tell me that I had a lot of patience and most of the time she would say I had way more patience then she did. I also understand that everyone learns at a different pace and in some cases people learn in different ways. I think its important to know how you learn or you can figure it out by using a tutor. I think helping people learn is a very rewarding experience. I really enjoy helping people. I think in order for people to remember some of the topics/concepts you have to make it fun and different, so that way it will stand out. I also feel that my GPA (3.77). shows how dedicated I am to my schooling and how I could pass on my good study habits to others.

I am a special education teacher and have been working with children with special needs for the past 10 years. Having this as my background would be of great benefit to Grade Potential because I know how to use many different strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners. If a student does not understand a topic one way, I can come up with other ways to teach that material.

I believe I would be a successful tutor because not only do I understand the material I would teach, I am out-going and easy to get along with so whoever I am tutoring would not feel overwhelmed or intimidated by me. Cal Poly suggests that a great study tip is to be able to teach it to my peers and I have successfully been able to do that through my freshman year.

I am personable, and passionate about knowledge. I am excited about learning, and I love teaching concepts to others. In my past tutoring experiences, I found it rewarding to help students gain confidence and skills. In college, I have been involved with a variety of extra-curricular activities. I am used to balancing a full course load while keeping busy in other areas of my life. In order to do that, I have had to be reliable and organized. I have experience in tutoring a variety of subjects to high school students in a large group. I worked in a program for Freshman who were struggling in their classes. I helped them with their homework, and helped them to stay motivated. I have also tutored students individually in high school Chemistry, English and Spanish.
