Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

Yes, i know what I am talking about. Even now, I still tutor a lot of my close friends in college level courses. I am patient and understanding, and more than willing to give the children time to adapt to the needed information. Also I have taken educational psychology and am aware of the useful techniques that would necessary for getting these kids to not just learn the material immediately, but also retain it. It is through these skills that I am sure I can help them transfer their knowledge onto tests, and future courses.

I believe that I am a good fit for Grade Potential because of my background as a writing tutor, my drive as a student and an individual, and my ability to connect with and help tutees in need. While working at Cal Poly's UWC, I worked with many different students of many different cultures, grade levels, and majors. Facing such diverse perspectives forced me to not only understand the material that I was tutoring at a deeper level, but also to understand how to tutor tutees more effectively. In my own course of study I strive for nothing less than the best, and I bring this same drive and mentality into working with tutees. I work hard to ensure that they better understand the material and succeed in their classes and in life. Not only do I want tutee's tutoring sessions with me to help them to succeed on their current assignments, but also on future assignments. In my past tutoring positions, this energy and dedication went over very well with the tutees I worked with, and I am confident that I can bring this same level of commitment, hard work, and results to Grade Potential.

My teaching experience has prepared me by giving me a lot of experience in working with large groups as well as one on one with students. I am a very reliable person, helping students learn is my number one priority.I have taught high school PreAP, Level and Inclusion Biology and Level and Inclusion Chemistry. I have also been an AVID tutor in high school where I tutored four core subjects.

During the Summer of 2012, I had to privilege to teach a Geometry/Algebra II course at an after school program. I taught these subjects to 6th and 7th graders who are getting ahead in their education. Although I only taught this course twice a week for two hours over the course of summer, I gained a lot of experience. I learned leadership skills, communication skills, and most importantly patience. I learned to break down difficult/abstract concepts into simple terms so that the students would understand. I also learned alternative approaches to teaching these students so that they would understand better. I tried to make the course fun and enriching at the same time so that they will feel confident, encouraged, and maybe even enjoy these subjects. Often times, I stayed 15-30 minutes after to help those students who needed more attention, and a couple more times of explaining. Over all this teaching experience developed many skills, and I also had a fun and rewarding experience.

I have tutored a special needs boy who was 10 years old. He was a fifth grader but was at a third grade level in all subjects. I spent a year and a half tutoring him in the subjects of reading and math. He was struggling with Tourette's syndrome, ADHD, and other emotional developmental disabilities. I worked with him in school and pulled him out for Reading and Math class, and then eventually went to full time homeschooling. I also spent a summer tutoring highschoolers for a private test prep company for the Act/SAT classes.

I would be a good tutor because I love helping other people. I enjoy working with others and I take pleasure in being able to help people with their schoolwork. I am also very reliable and punctual. I have prior experience in setting up times with people and making sure I meet my students on time.I was a tutor at Lake Tahoe Community College for a program called "Trio". The program was geared for disadvantaged students such as students with disabilities, low income students and first generation students. In the program students had their own personal tutor. At any given time I would help between 2-10 students per quarter. I would help them with their homework, study for tests and become an overall better student.

I think I would be a good tutor because of my education and training in education. I have worked with a variety of children at a variety of levels with success in an educational setting. I enjoy seeing my students successful and fell accomplished when they do succeed. I am completely reliable because I value the work that I do and know that there are others depending upon me to meet my commitments.

I like kids. I like working with them to discover not only the information they're being asked to learn, but also their own unique ways of learning. I really enjoy the process I have developed for instruction, as it challenges the kids to think for themselves while still encouraging them to keep going and keep trying. All of my students have been successful in raising test scores, some by more than 400% in one school year. But the greatest success is their confidence levels toward learning and being active, life-long learners. My students know I am consistent and dependable. I have high expectations and hold them accountable every single time. I also support them so they can always meet my expectations if they choose to put in the time and effort. As a team, we learn well.
