Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I love teaching, mostly because I can think about subjects (such as math) in ways that a lot of people don't. If I explain something one way, and the person I'm explaining to doesn't understand, I can usually find another approach. I'm very good at watching work, and understanding where people are missing information or making mistakes.

Teaching has been on my mind as a profession for as long as I can remember, Through high school I went a little AP crazy in my Junior and Senior years, getting a perfect score in English language and US History, and passing Physics, Politics, English literature, and Calculus. Meanwhile I helped one of my schoolmates with her physics homework in exchange for a little cash and marvelous cookies courtesy of her mother. In college I tutored for Astrophysics and an introductory Python class. I dabbled a bit in my first two years reflecting my various experiences in high school. In college I took classes on diverse topics from philosophy, college level calculus, history of Europe and the Americas, and programming.Having just graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz I have been looking for gainful employment in a field suited to my talents. Sharing what I have learned and the skills I have gained excites me and I'm eager to take up the tutoring job. Reliability won't be a problem for me, I'm the kind of person who gets to the movies 40 minutes before it starts. My schedule will be quite open for the foreseeable future.

I would be a great tutor for Grade Potential due to the fact that I am experienced in the subjects i have stated above and understand the way they are taught in a high school and elementary classroom. I also have experience tutoring differents age levels that vary from K-12. I am incredibly patient and understanding when it comes to helping someone learn. I do not give up when helping someone understand a subject matter and try various ways to help them understand, for example when it comes to helping someone understand a book I may relate in too present life. I am a reliable person and would never miss an appointment, i would actually be early, unless I had a huge emergency.Elementary Tutoring at various Elementary schools such as Driffil elementary, Curren elementary and Marshall Elementary in subjects; english and math. Part of the AVID program at Oxnard High School and tutored 9th grade students in lower division english classes. Oldest of four therefore have tutored younger siblings with English, Math, Computer Foundations.

I think I would make a fantastic tutor for several reasons. First, I have a good deal of tutoring experience. Since I worked with four different classes, I had to teach to a wide variety of students. Each class was composed of very different individuals that learned in very different ways. I know how to deal with various 'tutoring difficulties' when they arise, such as not having a strong grasp on a question a student is asking. I've learned all of these things from my experience. I know the different between telling someone how to do a problem and explaining how to do a problem. Most of the time, people struggle with something, particularly in economics, because they don't know how the process works. I know how to explain the process. I helped a girl pass a class and graduate.I am an incredibly hard worker and very reliable. I met all my deadlines for having homework graded and only missed a review session when I was out of the state competing in track. I'm very familiar with hard work and discipline. During my time at Westmont, I was a double major, competed in two sports and worked several jobs and internships, while maintaining strong relationships with my friends and family. I could not do that successfully without a strong work ethic and good time management.I'm also good with people. I was selected unanimously by my fellow seniors (about 15 of us) to be captain of the track team. I'm able to connect well with the students because of my sense of humor and my genuine desire to help them.I also think I am a great tutor because I enjoy doing it. I have a passion for helping people understand the subjects I love. One of my favorite feelings in the world is helping a student get that "aha!" moment, when they finally comprehend something they have been struggling with. I know what it's like to struggle with a subject and I want to prevent it from happening to other people.

I love to try and make learning fun by incorporating mnemonics or easy steps to remembering material. I also believe in stressing the fundamentals behind all subjects, as more and more teachers are expecting students to know the material beyond a level of just memorizing lectures or slides. I have had a variety of experience with working with others, as I have worked as a Desk Attendent at one of the Freshman Dormitories to help greet and maintain a residence hall during my freshman year and am currently interning at St. John's Hospital in Camarillo where I help patients on a daily manner. I am confident in my abilities and hopefully that will translate into being a great tutor.

I have been working with students K-8 non-stop for the last 6 years. I love teaching and am currently trying to convert my Nevada License to a California Credential. I am 31 years old and bring a lot of energy and passion to the occupation.Yes, last year I worked for ETS, Educational Tutoring Services. I would tutor students M-F from 4-7pm. Groups varied in size from 2 to 6 students per session. At ETS we only tutored Language Arts, in the areas of reading fluency, comprehension, spelling, writing, strategies, etc. I tutored in the cities of Oxnard and Camarillo. My supervisor is Jeannette Robles.

I know that I can be a good tutor for Grade Potential because of various reasons. Throughout college, there were many occasions when I had to tutor my classmates and friends in math, since math was my strongest subject. With my help, they were able to receive better test scores and do well in their homework assignments. I do not give any of my tutorees answer, instead I provide them with steps to help get the answer. In addition, when I was growing up I had several people to look up to. I believe that with my involvement in the community and school, I can provide great advice for students who want to go to college. I have never missed class before and I won't miss any scheduled tutoring days.

I was a teacher for a full year working with Elementary grade students (Kindergarten through Sixth grade). I had to create lesson plans, assert classroom management techniques, and assure the safety of my children at all times. I also have one year of student teaching, where I taught 7th grade World History in San Diego. I was a preferred substitute at the Middle School for Math, and History. I also tutored in Math after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays for over 6 months at the middle school.I started working for A-OK, last year before I received my teaching job. In A-OK (Afterschool Opportunities for Kids) I was in charge of a group of about 20 5th and 6th grade students. I helped them everyday with their homework. I worked for A-OK even while teaching until the program was able to find someone to fill my position.I did Big Brother/Big Sister in High School for a semester where I watched a 3rd grade student IYA every other day for 6 months. The program was designed for semester blocks, and when I little sister had to change schools at the end of the block, I decided to just complete the one semester.I have a lot of experience with kids dating back to when I was in high school taking teacher preparation courses and volunteering at the elementary school across the street. I've known this was my niche for a very long time.
