I am committed to students. With over 25 years of experience, including work with GATE, ESL, Resource, ADHD, and training in Educational Therapy, this work is the work I love to do. I retired from the classroom this year, planning to change from full-time to part-time as a tutor. Often when students start to have trouble with the subject matter, they also become anxious about it, which makes it even more difficult. I specialize in putting students at ease, helping them take things mindfully and moment by moment, informally diagnosing where concepts may be missing or inaccurate, and building metacognitive skills and self-esteem while tailoring a range of simple explanations to their particular needs. I have work experience ranging from kinder to graduate school, but most of my years have been spent in elementary and middle school, because these are ages I particularly enjoy. From my experience with these students I know it is important, whether as a teacher or a tutor, to be reliable over time and worthy of a student's trust and attachment. Not only is this ethical, but it helps the students learn.

I would be a great tutor for Grade Potential because I am a very outgoing and responsible person. I take all jobs seriously and treat everyone with utmost respect. I have been told by the students that I have tutored that I am very patient, that I do not treat them in a demeaning manner, and that I do not act intellectually arrogant. I have a certain method of tutoring, which involves showing students how to do certain problems then watching over them independently work out similar problems without interference. I also enjoy making up real-life situations that help students better understand different material. I am a very reliable person because I am a great communicator. Whenever situations arise I notify students and parents immediately whether it be through email, phone calls, or texts. Whichever is preferred... I also consistently check my phone and email. I am very organized, which allows me to remember my plans and workload for the day and week thanks to my handy planner!

As a special education teacher, most of my teaching experience is with students one-on-one or in a small group. I collaborate with parents and students to determine educational goals based on strengths and deficits. My success is dependent on quickly determining the learning and communication styles of the student I am teaching by trying a variety of different teaching approaches to see what works best. I like to be extremely positive, patient, and encouraging with my students; I want them to look forward to tutoring and learning time, not dread it! I was a college student-athlete and college coach; I know and value the importance of punctuality and reliability.
