Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I am a very patient person. I have the ability to relate to all different types of students with various learning styles. I also have a lot of experience teaching students with special needs and who are on IEP's. A few years ago, I also volunteered to teach a student with disabilities to learn how to ski through MSW's JISP program (Junior Instructional Ski Program). I am a very driven and determined individual and love to teach. I am very easy to get along with, and will always find a way to relate new material to students so that they understand new concepts.

I have been tutoring for 6 years.Courses I have been a private tutor for: Geometry, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Advanced Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Honors Trigonometry, Calculus,AP Calculus, Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Physics, AP Physics, Middle School Math, English, and Science, SAT Math, ACT Math.I have consistently held at least 1 client at a time since sophomore year of high school. Usually in the past I have tutored an average amount of 2-3 times a week for at least 4 years, and the other 2 years of experience was tutoring once a week.I have tutored in the past and really enjoy working with high school age children. Because I have been tutoring for so long, every high school math and physics class I still remember excellently. I love the feeling when I am helping a student and trying various techniques until I arrive at an approach that the student understands, and is able to grasp the concept.I have always been punctual and reliable with my clients. I have always been able to find an agreeable time for both myself and the student. I have my own reliable form of transportation, and will have less classes in the afternoons this year, which will give me an open schedule for tutoring.

I've been an efficient learner my whole life. That being said, I've felt inspired to create as much knowledge upon others as I was as a kid. My high school and college professors inspired me to find my passion in Literature, and someday I want to be as inspirational as that upon other students.My people skills are exceptional, and I look forward to brushing up on teaching techniques. I'm working toward getting my teaching credentials this year as I work on the side.I'm currently working at Mission Tutoring, where I tutor all grade levels of kids in English, writing, reading, geometry, etc.

I have performed well when studying economics and math myself and I have also performed well in classes that apply these subjects.As a current college student I am still very in touch with the learning process, particularly concerning economics and math.Throughout my years in school I have always prided myself in my ability to help my peers understand the material we are studying.I am prompt and always put work that other people depend on ahead of work only I depend on.

I would be an excellent tutor for Grade Potential because I am kind, courteous, laid back, and educated. I know that I will be able to teach my students to know the material themselves because I went through the same process of learning the material myself. I feel that this is especially true for teaching foreign languages because I specifically remember the different stages of learning a new language and what was or wasn't beneficial to me during that learning process. I know that I will be able place myself in the shoes of students who may not be as interested in the subjects that I am because I also remember how it was to take many classes that were mandatory and were not particularly in my area of interests. I feel that a healthy balance of lesson planning and being ready to be adaptable to any changes within the student's progress and or interest towards the subject being taught is a key element for successful tutoring.

I am the second oldest in a family of 7 children and have always helped out my younger brothers and sisters with their school questions and studies. School work has never been a burden to me, as it is for some of my peers, rather I enjoy pursuing new subjects as well as excelling at current ones. I am very understanding which allows me to grasp the learning styles of different students. I have the ability to connect with people in a way that shows them multiple and various points of view, or ways of seeing a question; all skills that I believe would carry over into a positive tutoring experience. I am a member of the Cal Poly women's basketball team, which in itself requires immense time management and responsibility, as well as commitment and hard work. My schedule would already be laid out for me to see so I would offer the exact hours that I can work.

I love teaching and tutoring. Helping people understand new things brings me such joy. Tutoring is such a passion of mine. I would love to make a career out of what I am passionate about. I am knowledgeable in many subject areas at many levels which makes me versatile and accessible to many types of students.I have tutored students of many ages in all of the above subject areas. I tutored one-on-one predominantly and charged 15/hr. However, now that I have a degree I would like to charge more.

As a graduate student I was able to work on a really amazing research project, but what I fell in love with was teaching. Sharing knowledge of subjects that I find fascinating is truly rewarding, and helping people figure stuff out and have a deeper understanding of material beyond just being able to regurgitate it on a test is a huge part of that. The same explanation or example isn't going to click with everybody and I have always been good at determining how to best explain things to different people. I also feel that being patient and encouraging are of huge importance when teaching/tutoring and these have always been strong-suits of mine. As far as being reliable, I grew up an hour away from a town, so that means for every doctors appointment, basketball practice, anything really, I knew I couldn't cut it close on time. And having plans cancelled after you've made a 50 mile trip is not very fun, so I have always made sure to set very clear times and give ample notice of any changes to plans. I feel terrible on the rare occasion that I am 5 minutes late for a coffee date, so I believe that "punctual" would be a great word to describe me! Letting people down is just not an option for me, whether it be my family, my friends, my students, or my employer.
