Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

Growing up, I was told by my parents, teachers, and family friends that becoming a teacher would be a suitable occupation for me. They believed this because I was very sociable and patient with kids around my age and younger. As a tutor, my goal is to be able to establish a connection with the student where learning the material at hand can be a fun, yet challenging environment. I aim to accomplish this task by first placing myself in the student's shoes. By seeing things through the student's perspective, I can get an understanding of the student's current situation.Grade Potential should also be able to count on me as a reliable person that fulfills my commitments because I am an organized individual and I understand the importance of my duties. As a tutor, I will be a representative of Grade Potential. It is vital that my performance will reflect positively on Grade Potential.

I volunteered for an after-school tutoring program for a local middle school. I tutored the kids in 6th-8th grade math, English, history, and science. I also private tutored for a family with a daughter who had trouble focusing. I worked with her on basic algebra (division, multiplication, fractions, decimals, etc.), science (land formations, water cycles, specific labs in class), English (poems, short stories), and history (working from a textbook to answer questions).

In my teaching and tutoring experiences I feel my greatest strength has been cultivating relationships with students that lower their affective filter and allow them to learn. I believe this success comes from a genuine care for their development into confident and thoughtful students and a patient and creative approach to teaching to individual needs. I am responsible and reliable as has been proven through my years of commitment to tutoring through AmeriCorps full time and to completing a full time credential program that included daily teaching in an elementary classroom and nightly university class attendance.Before completing the credential program I was a reading intervention tutor for K-6th grade. In this capacity I worked in small groups and one on one with students within the classroom supporting their literacy development with intervention curriculum designed by myself based on assessment of individual student needs or patterns of need across students. Before tutoring through AmeriCorps I worked at the Huntington Learning Center as a tutor for K-6, implementing course work designed my the learning center based on individualized assessments of each student.

I am very reliable and always have been. I take my word very seriously. If I say I will do something, I fully intend to follow through. Since I was a small child, my parents taught me to be punctual. My clients and students have never had to wait for me because I showed up late. I am well versed in the elementary curriculum and am familiar with the rigorous national standards that young students are expected to achieve. One of the things that makes me a great tutor is that I struggled in elementary school. I understand what it's like not to "get it" the first time. Students all have different learning styles, and I am able to teach them in the the way that they learn best. Because I have extensive experience teaching struggling students and English learners, I am a very patient tutor. I also encourage my students and build their confidence so that they can achieve more than they ever thought possible.

I am one of those people that you can count on. If I say I can do something I will. I will not only get done, it will get done well! One of my strengths is being able to motivate kids to want to learn the material. I am also very good at helping them visualize what they are working on and making connections that make the subject easier to understand and remember. I struggled in math when I was younger until one day it all clicked. I know what they are going though and now am able to show students how to overcome the struggles. I have insider knowledge that tutors who never struggled don't have.I have tutored K-6 for several families as a nanny/ tutor. I have also tutored two kids in Geometry and Bio and both quickly improved their grades and reached their goals. I working with kids and even have volunteered in my daughter's kindergarten class and helped several kids get up to speed with the rest of the class. I have been working with kids for the past 12 years.

I would be a good tutor for Grade Potential because I am an educator. I love the growth that can be seen when students get the specific support they need in small group or individualized settings. I have worked in many different roles in education, and I have become adept at identifying what connections students need to make in order to move ahead. This often starts with building a trusting and respectful relationship with the student. Given that piece, students will expect your consistency and reliability making it my responsibility to show up with that expected consistency to provide instruction.My tutoring experience really comes from my teaching experience. Working as special education teacher, I often worked one-on-one with students creating individualized lessons in order to meet their learning goals.

I legally enjoy tutoring and making a differnce in the lives I tutor. Not only am I subject matter experience and knowledge but I know how to help studies understand and apply what they learn. I have many years experience tutoring studies of different grade levels and classes. I have patience to and ability to teach studies at their own pace.I have extensive tutoring experience for the past 14 years at colleges to my fellow pears while I recived my BS and MS degrees. After graduating I continued tutoring many students both the college and high school level for many years.
