Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I have an honest, patient and professional approach in dealing with students. I am a good listener and I have always given priority to all my teaching assignments.I have taught at a Test Preparation Company, The Princeton Review, in India, for 10 months. I have taught for 8 months as an English Literature and language teacher at the middle school level in The Cambridge International School. And I have taught English Literature and Language for 13 months at the middle school level at M. P. Birla High School in India. I have been tutoring students for the last 4 years in India.

With 7 years of full time teaching experience and 3 years as the Site Testing coordinator for K-12; I feel that I am a knowledgeable and motivated educator. I believe in student success and wish to promote the most positive environment to learn within. As the volunteer coach of my daughter's track team, I have been reliable; and strive to be an example for every student that I encounter. I find importance in others reaching their full potential. It is not vital that 'I can teach', but imperative that 'they will learn.'

A good tutor is a person who can get to know a child as well as gain there trust quickly. Can be able to adjust to a students learning needs in any subject as well as making learning fun. To a child a tutoring session is just more school and boring. But tutoring is neither. Its a student out of the element of school and someplace they are comfortable and relaxed. Able to let the mind break from school learning and a tutor should make the work seems easy and fun to learn without pressure. Encourage the student with each step they accomplish and end each session with the student feeling confident in their academics.I have past tutoring experience with 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th grade ELA & Math. In each case an improvement was greatly seen in all students final testing scores. I also have past tutoring experience with an Autistic 2nd grader and when our tutoring session had ended the parents had extended tutoring with me. I have a 3rd grader myself and I help her daily with studies and prepare her for the upcoming grade so she is always a step ahead. With my help she had scored Advanced in both English & Reading on the CST (California Star Testing).

I believe I would be a very good tutor because I relate well with students and use my past experiences and knowledge to keep them excited. I am able to connect their lives to the real world through my experiences and knowledge. This helps them see the big picture and understand that their education is a valuable tool.I am an extremely reliable person and very committed to any project I undertake. I have been in involved in program development at UCSB that took 2 years of work to make happen. Along with this I continued to do my normal job and also to facilitate two classes for staff. Responsibility and reliability are two of my strongest assets.

I have served as a Teaching Assistant for three quarters at UCSB. Each quarter, this involved managing four classes of around fifteen student each. As a teaching assistant, I developed lesson plans , led discussions of content covered in lectures and reading materials, developed homework assignments, worked one-on-one with students outside of class, and graded homework, essays, and tests. I found the one-on-one work outside of class to be most the personal, productive, and fulfilling part of this experience, which is why I am now interested in exploring tutoring.Additionally, my mother works as an independent college applications counselor. I have worked with her to edit and develop college essays since I was an undergraduate. In addition, she has referred me to several clients, one that I worked with to develop his college essays and another to tutor the California High School Exit Examination.Finally, as an undergraduate, I worked briefly in a Brooklyn elementary school as a tutor.

I am an experienced and enthusiastic tutor who loves to help kids learn. I have tutored high school students, helping them prepare for the verbal and writing parts of the SAT test. I have also taught private piano lessons to students of all ages for many years. My most recent piano teaching involved helping grade school, junior high and high school students prepare for the Music Teachers Association of California Certificate of Merit exam.I am someone who enjoyed taking classes in school. I love working with ideas, and I love conveying those ideas to students. It pleases me to no end when, after explaining a concept to a student, I see the light bulb go on when that student understands. This is what it's all about for me as a teacher and a tutor. I take seriously my commitment to tutoring and arriving promptly at tutoring appointments that I make. I have over 15 years of experience in the insurance industry, and my business experience has taught me lessons in punctuality and communication, especially the importance of returning phone calls. I am professional in every way that I can be. But I like to have fun too!

I love learning, and I have incredibly high standards for myself when it comes to school. I also love people; I'm naturally very friendly and positive, and it's incredibly rewarding for me to teach someone a new concept. I am good at breaking down complex processes into easy to understand words. When I teach music, it does not feel like work. I love children, and spending time with them is a reward in itself.I worked with my son every day for years, and now he's one of the best readers in his class. I also volunteered in his kindergarten and first grade classes to help the students with reading and basic math. I volunteer with Reading to Kids, and organization which promotes a love of reading to low income children in downtown LA. I have been teaching voice and guitar for about 6 months.

I acknowledge the rewarding aspect that assisting and witnessing in the learning process of a student offers. I enjoyed it throughout high school which is why I participated in the voluntary program.I currently am an Assistant Bike Coach on the Triathlon Club at Cal poly. Part of the job is teaching athletes the basics of cycling, especially the new athletes. Also, part of the job is a weekly meeting with the rest of the coaching staff; I can boast that I have never been late to a meeting. Next year I will be the Head Run Coach on the team.
