Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

First of all, I really do "know my stuff" in the subjects that I've outlined above. I've always excelled in those types of classes and, through my studies in law school, have only further cultivated those subjects.Second, I have a way with students. In my time coaching students in mock trial, I've repeatedly had students come to me outside of class to receive help and guidance with various things. When I was in high school, I was always the one that people looked to for help in writing papers or studying. Now, in law school, my classmates often come to me when they have a question or need something explained, as well as to exchange legal essays to compare and learn.Finally, I am a committed worker -- if I've made an appointment, I will not break it. I love the students as well, and do what I can to help them out as much as possible. I will be the kind of tutor that is available last minute when a student is panicing about an upcoming test or paper. I put my students first.

I Feel like I would be a good tutor for Grade Potential because of my experience as a tutor and my educational background. I have had experiences with many different types of students who struggle with many different skills. I was trained to be able to identify what every student needs in order to succeed in school. I am a reliable person because I am always on time and I would never miss an appointment. This would be evident in my time at California Lutheran University, the program I was enrolled in only allowed one to miss a single class in the entire year program. I am passionate about education, it is a part of who I am. As there are not many teaching positions available at this time I feel that my time and energy would best be placed in a tutoring environment where I can still be with students and help them succeed in their educational journey.For 3 years I was a nanny/tutor for a student with disabilities, working one on one with her everyday with homework from grade 3-6. While in school for my BA I was part of a service learning project, I went to a 4th grade classroom once a week to work with small groups of students to improve reading skills. I currently volunteer in a 2nd grade classroom working one on one with students who struggle in reading, writing, and math skills.

Academically, I know my stuff. As a recent graduate of Highschool, I graduated in the top 3% of my class of over 900 students with a weighted 4.4 GPA (on a 4 point scale). Every class I took was either Honors or AP, and received almost all A's with a few discrepant B's. I received a score of 2200 on the SAT, without any formal tutoring classes, and a near perfect score on both the Math 2 and Chemistry Subject Tests. Additionally, as a first year college student, I received all A's and made the Dean's List at Cal Lutheran University. In my view, grades only show so much. I have received nothing but E's (Excellency) in Work Habits and Cooperation, showing the true work ethic and professional approach to education I posses. However, intelligence is one thing. The most important aspect in this situation is my ability to translate the knowledge I have and offer the material to my students in such a way, so that they are able to comprehend it and build proficiency in that subject. I have a lot of tutoring experience in tutoring, so I know I could do such a thing. Because i have such a firm grasp on the knowledge I have, I am able to word things in different ways to allow students that may not get it one way, to get it another, or reaffirm they understanding by taking a few different approaches. As to my reliability, I am a man of my word. I have never been late to class, nor appointment, nor any commitment I have given my word on. I have reliable transportation, have a driven mindset, and the urge to help others. I understand if I fail in keeping my commitment, they will fail. I would never let that happen.

I would be a great tutor, because not only am I smart, I'm also really friendly. I enjoy helping people. If you come to me with a problem, I will do all in my power to help you out, and if I can't help you, I'll find someone who can. I enjoy teaching people new things, and helping people succeed. But I don't like just doing things for people, that's not really helping them. I want them to be able to do it on their own, so they won't always need me. I'm also friendly and easy to talk to, or so people tell me. I just want to teach. And tutoring is a good way to start.

Now I am retired. I worked in the publishing field for more than twenty years. Part of that time was spent as an advertising account executive. I wrote and edited advertorial copy but most importantly I communicated well with people. I learned to listen, tried to understand their needs and I was always on time for every appointment - except one. The newspaper business is about communication through words and pictures. I think the skills I learned in my career would transfer well.Also, I like children and young adults. I know I could help them learn.I helped my children with reading and composition when they were in elementary school.

In October of last year I arrived in the very small village of Vatomandry in the country of Madagascar, where I literally jumped head first into the school system, and began teaching English in 7 different locations. I also tutored privately at home to children between the ages of 5 and 20 years old, and ran several conversational English clubs. To make it even more interesting, I conceptualized a Fitness program at the Youth Center and taught classes there 4 times per week. Finally, I began a Literacy Program including a community book share and reading circles. Several years ago I participated in a program in East Africa working with the leader of one of the Masai communities to help prepare potential teen candidates for college entrance in the U.K.Prior to this experience, I am a successful 16+ year Manager in several different industries including retail and real estate. In management I most enjoy the coaching and developing of staff, both individually and as a team. I derive great satisfaction from guiding people, especially kids, to reach their full potential.

I enjoy working with students and miss being a teacher. I may not always know the answer but I know how to find answers and that includes figuring out the best way to help students learn. There are many different ways that people learn and it just takes finding that way to really help someone understand.I am a dependable person and make sure that I am where I need to be. I taught middle school for five years and you have to show up consistently. It takes a lot of dedication and flexibility to be a successful teacher.

Tutoring is something I enjoy. why? Because it is something I am good at.I'm an effective communicator. I know the material proficiently. Others give me good recommendations. Parents seem to trust me. I have the scores to back up my ability. 35 on ACT 800 on SAT.You know you're a tutor when you're helping someone with their homework and their friend walks by and says "Wow you just seem like a tutor".I'm a reliable person who feels its a necessary responsibility to keep my appointments. I'm also reliable because simply, I enjoy tutoring. It is something that I like to do, therefore I will always keep my tutoring commitments.
