Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I would be a great tutor for several different reasons. In my limited experience tutoring in the past, with my younger sister and family friend, I have been very patient, and I also feel that it is a skill of mine to explain things to people in a clear and understandable way. I am able to see what they are thinking and what they are stuck on and able to make clarifications. I think I am an effective tutor because I speak in a way that is very understandable, and I'm able to put things in ways that would help the students grasp the material (using analogies, logic processes, and effective mnemonics). I have a competence of the material I have said that I'd be comfortable tutoring. A lot of the high school specific material I have seen somewhat recently from helping my younger sister out. I am a good and mindful student, I got A's and B's in high-school and finished with above a 4.0 gpa, and I continue to get only A's and B's in college. I also pick things up quickly. I feel like one of my greatest attributes is my sense of humor, it would be hard to show you through this writing right now but I know that I would be able to get along with my students well, and keep the learning process fun, entertaining, and interesting. I am positive that my communication skills (Comm Major) would help bring out the best in my students. I might also mention that I would happy to work with any student with mental or social disabilities.

I believe that I would be an effective tutor with Grade Potential, both for my academic record as well as for my personality. As evidenced by my academic performance, I do "know my stuff," and I always go that extra mile to really get the most out of any educational opportunity presented to me. My past tutoring experience through National Honors Society suggests to me that I do have the ability to successfully tutor pupils and even today, I constantly find myself helping friends with their coursework, be it proofreading, explaining a concept, or helping with study skills. As for being able to count on me, I only make commitments which I intend to keep. A longtime member of student government, I am accustomed to having many appointments and responsibilities, all of which I took seriously. When I worked at Jamba Juice, my proactive approach to work and my high level of responsibility helped me to become a manager in only a few months. I am a responsible and reliable person.

I love helping others, and I really enjoyed tutoring in high school. I make a point to attend every single class I am enrolled in, and this diligence will carry over to my position as a tutor. I enjoy learning and find it fun, and will tutor my students in this fashion; I don't want them to feel afraid of learning or overwhelmed with the material.I was an after-school tutor from 2007-2009.

I believe my past experience as a tutor has prepared me for a position at Grade Potential. Throughout my experience, I learned how to work with a range of students. I quickly realized that I had to adjust my technique and style depending on the students' ability and their desire to learn. I learned how difficult it can be to teach, but also how rewarding it is when students succeed. I am a student myself and I truly enjoy learning. In the past year, I feel that I have advanced my own study skills and I am eager to share those techniques with students who are a little younger than me.I have had a steady job since I was 17 and I am used to having to be at work on time. Also, since I tutored several different kids in high school, I am comfortable being in students' homes. I learned how important it is to establish a good relationship with the students as well as their parents. I quickly discovered if the students liked me, they would trust me more and ultimately be more successful.

I feel that in the areas of math and science I am extremely proficient and I understand many different approaches to learning almost any concept. I enjoy working with young minds and creating enthusiasm about these areas of study. I think encouraging others to strive to attain technical degree from a four year University is an important contribution to our society that I would like to make. To do this it is imperative that teenagers at a young age understand the value of even the most basic math and science courses. For this reason I would be a dedicated tutor to any who wanted to learn.

As a tutor, I feel that one of the most important things about "helping someone with their homework" is not to simply provide the answers, or tell a student what to write in their essay. It is about getting someone personally interested in the subject at hand - making what is on the table alive and dynamic, so that the student actively WANTS to truly learn the material, make their own conclusions and find their own voice.As a freelance writer, I get to write on a wide variety of subjects, oftentimes having to think about a topic in a whole new way, or research something I didn't really know much about beforehand. This requires resourcefulness as well as discipline - there are usually no real guidelines except for these: it has to be accurate, it has to be delivered before deadline, and it has to be good. If I can't quite grasp a subject right away and get to the heart of the matter quickly, I take a step back, bounce ideas off of someone else perhaps, or think of a different approach. One way or another, my work must be well thought out and worthy of being read, if not educational and entertaining!I am also a certified Jeweler Gemologist, providing appraisals and diamond certificates to private clients. While appraisal work may not qualify as tutoring or teaching per se, I have often found that when a client comes to me with an expensive diamond, or a box full of jewelery they've inherited from someone, they want to learn EVERYTHING they can about their treasure. The more clients know when they walk out the door, the happier they are. Appraisal work involves explaining a number of unfamiliar topics, (diamond grading, gemstone identification, jewelry valuation, etc.), to people in terms they can easily understand. I find this work particularly rewarding because it can be so challenging, and I'm always thrilled when a client leaves with a smile on their face!In general, I love learning, usually have my nose in a book, and thrive on discussing all kinds of topics with just about anyone. If there's some way I can help someone solve a problem or create something interesting and educational - especially when there's a deadline! - I am always excited for an opportunity to learn something new and achieve a goal.

I feel qualified to be a tutor because I received multiple awards and recognition from Ventura college and bank of america. I have a great personality and positive outlook which makes it easy for me to help others. I love children I have one of my own which makes it easier for me to mentor someone in a more calm manner, easily get a long with anyone of any age. I'm very reliable, I've received many attendance awards. I recently graduated from cosmetology school which taught me a lot about being on time and on point with my clients. Graduating left me with tons of spare time. I love English and math. I excelled in it greatly while attending high school, if i was given the opportunity this would be a job I could love and excel in as well.

I believe I would be a great tutor for Grade Potential because I absolutely love working with kids. I feel that I can confidently teach students a little of what I know just by being able to connect with them on their level. Being a student myself I understand the pressures well and can find innovative ways to make even the boring stuff fun to learn. I would love to work with Grade Potential in order to better my own life as well as the students' lives that I would be tutoring. Though I have a lot of work when it comes to school I have a flexible schedule and always get everything done on time; I am a reliable person and look forward to all opportunities that come my way.
