Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I have always been a reliable and responsible worker. Throughout my life I have had the responsibility at paid jobs, as well as volunteer positions, of having to plan events, be punctual, motivated, hard-working, as well as sociable and friendly. I love working with kids, and have often helped tutor many of my classmates although I have had no professional experience with tutoring. When I put my mind to something I give it 110%, which I will clearly do at this job if given the opportunity. Not only that, but I am currently in school so these topics are all fresh in my mind so I will be able to understand them inside and out

I have a long history of job-related punctuality and reliability (an absolute must in the restaurant business), so I don't foresee any problems there. I believe I would be a good tutor because I am very knowledgeable in the areas of my interest, and my limited experience in doing so has led me to believe that I can effectively impart some of this subject mastery to others. I also have many satisfied (free) clients when it comes to my ability to improve the quality of a school paper.

I believe that I would be a good tutor at Grade Potential because I have successfully tutored children in the past and I have loved working with them. I am very patient and willing to go over information as many times as needed until the student fully understands the material. I think that it's important to try to relate homework questions or problems to the real world, and if that's not possible, at least try to make homework fun and productive. It's important to show by example as well as to make sure the student can do the work on his or her own by inspiring confidence and looking at problems from outside of the box. I am a problem solver and I am dedicated to helping others improve and reach their goals. I am responsible and reliable and I would always keep appointments because I know that it is important for students to know that their tutor is there for them. In past job experiences, I have arrived promptly and although rare, when I couldn't make it to work, I would notify my supervisors at least 24 hours in advance.

In addition to lots of teaching experience and a solid foundation in mathematics, during my doctoral studies, I focused on the teaching and learning of mathematics. I am well practiced in teaching all kinds of learners. I take particular pride in building the confidence of students who have unfortunately come to think they have no talent in math. I also enjoy creating fun, engaging ways to help students think mathematically and develop better understandings of mathematical concepts.I have taught in K - 12 classrooms for about 20 years.... Most of my recent classroom teaching has been in grade 3 - 6. I have informally tutored math at all levels. Most recently, I've tutored my 3 -5 grade science students and my grade school son.

One good point about me is that I do not require a lot of coaching from you on how to be a tutor. I have the skills in my back pocket from more than 25 years of teaching, assistant teaching, and tutoring. Another wonderful thing about me, is that I have made a lifetime out of loving children, and am a warm and gentle teacher. I develop a relationship with my students that is enjoyable and friendly, so they are asking their parents all day, "When is Judy Kay Cooper coming, Mom?" My time with my students is a high point in both of our days! I have gotten my own two children through school, and have taught for many years, so there is no doubt that I "know my stuff" and then some....it's in my heart!!! Yes, I am reliable....after so many years in the classroom, I have developed a habit of being 5 minutes early to all appointments, and knowing my way around the city. I am 55 years old, and my days of being unreliable are so many, many years behind me.

I feel that I have some tactics for learning that might be able to help other students, and I would love to pass those tactics on. I have most likely been in some of these students shoes, frustrated because the material is difficult. I, myself, found a way to work through the frustration and achieve grades that I am proud of now. I believe that you cannot always get through school alone, and that is why I want to share my knowledge with people that want and are willing to learn.

I believe I would be an exceptional tutor for math because it has always been a passion and a motivation for me. Naturally I am a problem solver and being an architecture student, math has always been a must. At the beginning of college, I dedicated myself to understanding math and through that, I grew an appreciation for math and would love to share that enthusiasm with students. The same way everything just opened up and made sense to me in the world of math, I want to pass that on to the future generation.

I have an open and flexible schedule throughout the whole week and can start immediately. I am an optimistic and laid back person, who enjoys learning and teaching students. I aim to motivate all of my students to strive for academic success, and am always researching new and effective ways to teach my students.
