Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I plan on entering education, whether it be as a primary, secondary, or post-secondary educator. Currently, I want to begin tutoring students to improve my own educating abilities. I am dedicated to improving student understanding of subject material and allow them to develop their research and writing skills. I have five younger siblings and have developed patience with younger children who may be struggling with certain academic material and I have the time and commitment to give to each student that comes under my tutelage.

I am someone who has worked with children, education, and lead classes for many years despite my young age. I have been leading sports programs since I was 15 and continue to due so in the areas of wrestling and judo. Furthermore, I have been with the AVID program first as a student and then as an advocate which I believe is crucial for all types of students to achieve their academic potential. I most recently tutor international students and coach judo to children, college students, and the visually impaired. I am very calm, understanding, and have a great deal of patience which I think is necessary for a successful tutor.I worked alongside the linguistics department at the University of California, Santa Barbara to teach international graduate students English. In addition to this, I have also worked with Education Abroad Students (EAP) With English and essay editing. I am also a certified tutor through the AVID program and can lead tutorial groups with confidence.

I am a great communicator and have worked with many families throughout my career. I am a mother myself and understand the difficulties that face parents when trying to work with their children. My classroom experience often makes parents feel comfortable as they know I am credentialed. I am definitely reliable and look forward to helping students and parents on their education journey.

I have been lucky enough in my life to have had many opportunities to demonstrate leadership. The first job I ever had in High School was coaching kids ages 5-10 in gymnastics. This taught me how to be patient and persistent when dealing with children and their varied learning speeds/processes. I was also made Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper, which taught me a lot about being reliable, confident, and committed. I was then able to utilize these qualities that I developed in my part time tutoring jobs, and all the other jobs I have had in the last few years. In terms of "knowing my stuff," I was an honor roll student throughout High School and I feel I am a well-rounded person with a wide range of knowledge. However, I know that I will not always remember everything, but I am a quick and willing learner, and will always be ready and eager to brush up on the material before I meet up with a student. Lastly, my friends know me to be "the girl who is early for everything." While this is not always a great quality in my personal life, I feel it is an important quality to have in my business life. People can always count on me to be there at the scheduled appointment time.

I have a great relationship with my students and can connect with students. I work to make the subject matter applicable to the students' real lives, thus making it more relevant. I have experience working with at-risk students, AP, GATE, motivated, and unmotivated students. I care about students and I love teaching. I would love to have an opportunity to work in small group and/or one-on-one settings to help students succeed in the classroom.I tutored writing, middle school math, science and history while earning my bachelors at California Lutheran University. I then earned my credential and have been teaching in the classroom ever since.

I think I would be a great fit for Grade Potential because I love to help others understand things that come easy to me and so I feel that when working with a student i will have a good attitude and be patient with him or her until the message gets across. I also feel that I will do a good job of communicating with the student my understanding of a particular subject. i will make sure that the student understands every concept or material that I go over before moving on to the other things. If you were to contact my former teachers or former employer, they would tell you that I was always on time and always doing what was expected of me. I take pride in being someone that others can trust and this mentality will certainly carry over to tutoring others.

I think that I would be a good tutor for Grade Potential because I am a very bright, hard-working, dedicated student who loves to tutor and help other students improve their academic knowledge and skills. I took mostly AP and honors courses throughout high school and I feel very confident in knowing and being able to tutor and teach my students the material for the classes that I listed. I believe that my past experience with tutoring students makes me highly qualified for this position. You definitely will be able to count on me as a reliable person in terms of keeping my appointments and fulfilling the commitments I make because I truly want to tutor younger students and help others learn and be confident about their studies.

My previous experience as a teacher, tutor and high school administrator have prepared me for work in this field. I believe in drawing out from my students their innate understanding of the material while guiding them in studying and comprehending new course material. I engage students in lively discussions of the material rather than simply helping them find the answers to their homework. I enjoy teaching and my enthusiasm and support for my students makes learning an enjoyable experience for them. I am very reliable and served as an administrator for a private high school for eight years. I am rarely ill and don't miss appointments. I usually arrive early and am never late for appointments.
