Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I would be a good tutor for Grade Potential because I really love working with students and helping them reach their full potential. I think it's a shame that in a lot of education, the classes are so large and the students really don't get the one-on-one attention that could really benefit from, and I think tutoring is a great way to get students the help they need in not just education, but the full experience of having a teacher who truly cares about them and their future. I really would like to help inspire students to love learning.I am currently applying to graduate school with the hopes of working with students later on and I'd love to have this opportunity to both help students and also to progress my own education and experiences at the same time. I am a very reliable person and prefer to arrive five minutes early to any job or event. As far as my work ethic goes, I believe that it's important for teachers and tutors to set a good example to their students and that a lot of teaching is not just about the material, but also what teachers show them with their own lives. Being responsible and fulfilling commitments are one of those things that is important to life outside of academia as well as in it, and it's important to show my students how much I care about their learning in order for them to care as well.

The makings of a great tutor is about being able to comprehend the information and then synthesize it and convey it in such a way that the student can understand and grasp the concepts with ease. It starts with my ability to know the material I will be tutoring. I have a strong background in many of the subjects I offer (often having taken at least two years of upper level classes for some of the subjects such as chemistry, biology, psychology, and history) and, if necessary, I am willing to go the extra mile and study the specifics of the students subject to make sure I can adequately answer all of his/her questions and concerns. Communicating this knowledge of the subject is a different story, however. I accomplish this by getting to know my students, the way they conceptualize the information, and their study habits so I can maximize their learning potential. I am also willing to spend time with the students to impart upon them good study habits and skills to make their time studying more efficient and fun. A great aspect of my tutoring is that I am only 22. I am young enough still to relate to the students and make them feel comfortable and make their time with me an enjoyable learning experience. Having been tutored a lot as a high school student and having more than my fair share of tutors I can truly appreciate the students experience and understand the dos and don'ts. I prioritize my job as a tutor above all else. I know students depend on me to aide them in their studies and I take that seriously. I am a strong believer in punctuality and professionalism. I do my best not to disappoint.

I am a passionate teacher! I absolutely love to teach. My students needs are my number one priority. It isn’t about what I know, it’s about using what I know to teach students how to learn. Learning should not be a chore, it should be fun! I always find exciting ways to make my students want to learn. I am reliable because tutoring is not just a job, it’s what I enjoy doing!

My mother thought it was a smart idea if we hired a tutor to make sure I was 100% prepared for the test. Thanks to Jason, I was fully ready to take my test. He makes schoolwork easy but explains each topic thoroughly. At my school, no teacher has ever gone in depth on any topic we cover. Jason uses teaching methods different from any teacher and tutor I have ever been acquainted with. I tutored for two years for America Reads / America Counts while I studied in New York. My first year I tutored Fifth graders in Brooklyn and my following year I tutored at L.I.F.E. Homeless Shelter, where I helped set up an after school tutoring program in the library for children ranging from 5-15 years old. I also taught an adult ESL class once a week for the members of the shelter. This adult ESL class was composed of several different nationalities, ranging from Puerto Rican to Indian.I have also lectured on the History of English Painting and taught ESL Oral English at the Institut d’Etudes Superieures des Arts, Paris. There I worked with 4 classes of Parisian college students. The students ranged from very basic English skills to very advanced.

I have tutored for the past 4 years, privately. I've tutored a child in all of the following K-6 Math, Science, Reading/Composition, Spelling, and for those that apply, History. I have tutored a child in grades 7-11 as well. For grade 7 I have tutored Pre-Algebra, English, History, and Science. In grade 8, I have tutored Algebra 1, Science, English and History. For the high school level students, I have tutored Geometry, Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Algebra 2, Functions Stats and Trigonometry, US History, Biology, Chemistry, English (9-11) and Physical Science. Along with tutoring privately, I have tutored through the Miller YMCA in Newbury Park. This program hosts children ages 1-8, for After School homework help and enrichment activities.
