Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I would be a great tutor for Grade Potential because I have just completed my Student Teaching and my college courses in education. I am fresh and enthusiastic, and it conveys to those who I have taught in the past year. After teaching ninth grade honors English students and tenth grade regular English students, I have become accustomed to altering the way that I approach a lesson based on the learning style, disabilities, and language boundaries of a student. I am excellent at varying instruction and can use a number of techniques to ensure that students learn. I could apply these same techniques to tutoring, and I believe that I could actually do this with amplified success because I can focus all my attention on one or two students instead of a class of forty. I am extremely punctual, easy to get along with, friendly, hard working, knowledgable, and an excellent communicator. I am confident that I would be a wonderful edition to Grade Potential.

I enjoy people and I have good interpersonal skills. I can communicate effectively and I like to help others. In my previous classes I have always served as a leader. I found myself helping others out constantly when I felt I had the course material mastered. I enjoyed the feeling of being knowledgeable and helping those around me. I also enjoy working as a team in the classroom setting but I would prefer one on one tutoring. I feel that I can explain myself well and I am creative in explaining things. If someone does not understand something I try and find a different way of explaining it until they understand. I am a responsible person and I am loyal to my employers. I am punctual/ reliable and I will keep any commitments and appointments made. I am an honest person and I will be loyal to my students by trying my best to help them learn the material. Previous professors have noticed my leaderships skills and have offered me tutoring positions. I have had several tutoring opportunities in the past that I didn't act upon.

1. I am and educator and am looking at continuing to work with students throughout the summer 2. My daughter will be attending summer camps thus my days are freed up and my wife will be home during the evening so that I can attend tutoring sessions in the evening. 3. My goal is not to just tutor and teach these students and make sure that they learn the material but for them to look outside of the box, become more confident and stretch their minds.

I bring an extensive knowledge and experience as both a tutor and teacher at three of the major universities in town: U.C.S.B, S.B.C.C., and Brooks Institute, where I have worked for many years. I have vast interdisciplinary knowledge, and I have, in some cases, helped create and develop the classes and curricula at these institutions. I am passionate about learning, assisting students from diverse cultures, backgrounds, academic needs and learning styles. As a tutor at a very busy and popular writing center at S.B.C.C., I understand the necessity of being a reliable, relatable, and reputable tutor. I'm highly organized, and I have managed to honor my commitments to students at all three of these institutions, where I have sometimes taught and tutored concurrently.

I believe I would be a good tutor for Grade Potential because I have worked as a tutor for introductory undergraduate chemistry students. I have taken intensive courses in chemistry as well as several university level physics and math courses. In addition to this I have worked as a camp counselor which has given me experience teaching a variety of age groups and activities. I would be a reliable tutor because during the school year I have kept a regular schedule that included taking classes, tutoring, and commitment to cross country practice and meets. This has taught me how to manage my time effectively and has allowed me to form habits of timeliness and hard work. I also understand that the success of a student can depend on the commitment of the tutor and that is necessary to keep a timely schedule to ensure that the needs of the student are met.

I'm a desirable candidate for Grade Potential because I have excellent content knowledge of the subject areas I teach, have over eight years tutoring experience, and because I am studying to be a teacher. My life revolves around working with children and teaching, for these are my passions in life. If you hire me you'll see that I'm a dedicated employee with a great work ethic, a person who's willing to bring what they know to the table to help others.I've been a private tutor since the fall of 2004. I have experience with all the subjects and grade levels listed. I used to tutor in people's homes but have recently started tutoring the in public library because there are less distractions for students. I plan my own lessons, bring my own materials, utilize technology, and bring my own manipulatives to enhance student understanding.

I'm good at explaining how to do things and I have a great general knowledge base for pretty much every subject I can think of. I'm not an expert in any one subject, but I'm above average in most. Also, I've been studying in college how people learn the best and, in turn, how best to teach them. I want to help people do better in school, particularly high school kids, so that they have the opportunity to come to college and have the experience that I've come to enjoy so much. As for reliability, another reason why I want to become a tutor is that I have a lot of free time, so apart from a part time job that will only take up to 12 hours out of my week (and that's usually way less) I'll have little reason to abruptly cancel on students. To be frank, I hate being late and I hate letting people down, especially people relying on me the way these students would.

I feel like I would be a great tutor for Grade Potential, because I can think with my left brain and right brain. In other words, I am not only book smart but I can also think out of the box. I am very confident in my math and biology knowledge. I feel like if my student can not understand the concept, I would be able to explain it in another light. In my personal life I am very confident in riding and working around horses. Many of my friends and family that also have horses tend to come to me with questions, and I give them answers. If someone tries to explain to them a concept and I can tell they are not getting it, I try and explain it in another way they might understand. Horses have also taught me to be patient and responsible. I am a very hard working and reliable individual that everyone can count on.
