Find a Local Tutor Who Gets It

I have always considered myself to be passionate about learning and education. One of the things that I value most about my experience at Cal Poly is that the majority of my professors teach the courses in an upbeat, positive manner. I do the best in the classes where my professors are excited about the subject and are capable of passing on that excitement to the students. I have learned a lot from these professors, and I think that as a tutor, I would implement these same teaching techniques when working with my students. I would teach the subject matter in a fun and fresh manner, using techniques that would be exciting and positive for the student. I would help the student to develop helpful nemonic devices to accompany the subject matter with, which will help make the subject matter more relatable and easily attainable. I am a very constructive and encouraging individual, capable of pushing others to do their absolute best by giving critique that would be beneficial and positive for the student's future success.

I have either had most of these classes recently and feel very comfortable in the subject matter, or for the earlier math subjects, I can pick it up quickly when I have the material in front of me. I am very reliable and rarely arrive late to my appointments, especially if it's to help someone else. I have a flexible availability in the next 10 weeks, as I am taking a slightly lighter load to make more time for volunteering/working. I really want students to succeed and believe that I can communicate affect ways to help them in the classes they are struggling in.

I love tutoring. I have only had a few chances to fit it into my schedule so my experience is limited, but I thoroughly enjoy helping people to learn math and science. I fell it is very important for everyone to have a solid foundation in math and science because it is very helpful in many aspects of daily life that many people just don't experience. I feel very accomplished when someone finally "sees the light" and grasps the concepts of math. I know the feeling and to see someone else experience it is very rewarding.Reliability- I have never called in sick, missed work, shown up late, arrive unprepared, or taken an un-timley break in over 2 years of employment. I take pride in being punctual and prepared for my job because, it's my job.

I work well with both children and adults. I am also an organized and punctual student who enjoys teaching others.I have tutored fellow students since freshman year of high school in 2009. I mainly tutored in spanish, geometry, and development of essays. I have tutored for 3-4 families and can provide their contact information if needed.

I have a myriad of experience working with kids in the classroom, on the volleyball court, and in a dance studio. I have developed patience with students and enjoy exploring their learning styles. I have a knack for explaining things and breaking ideas down to the basics for the kids to figure out. Most importntly, I find it to be fulfilling work. In college, I developed many training programs for students, co-workers, and my staff members. Through this I have developed a teaching philosophy that includes patience, understanding, and structure. Additionally, I am currently working as an Implementation Coach at MINDBODY. At this position, I train new clients to use the MINDBODY software.I truly enjoy teaching people to learn new things or understand new concepts. I am flexible, reliable, and am excited for the opportunity to be a tutor with Grade Potential.

The major I have chosen to pursue, Biomedical engineering, is one that requires commitment to both be accepted into and as well as to complete. If I am selected to tutor students, I guarantee that I will bring that same commitment to helping and instructing each and every student. I believe responsibility is a trait one must possess in order to balance the time commitment of college and work, as I have needed to do over the past 3 years. I pay for own education through loans and hard work, and I figure if I can balance all that, I can show up on time to tutor.

I have five younger siblings, and I grew up teaching them things. I learned through trial and error some of the best ways to pass along something that I know or understand. Also, I have covered the basic principles of math and physics so many different times with so many teachers that I know many ways to explain the same concepts. This could be useful if the student does not understand the concept the way that the teacher presented it.

I know I will be a great tutor because I love kids and I love teaching kids. Most of my teaching has revolved around my volunteering activities. I have no trouble refreshing my knowledge on subjects to be able to effectively communicate concepts to students. I am very patient and believe that anyone can learn. I am creative and can come up with different strategies to help others retain and learn new knowledge if standard methods are not working. I am committed to helping others learn, which is why I am going back to college for my teaching credential in the fall.
